I have also known this show since I was 14… Now I‘m 17 and I’m also terrified of the open ocean. I like reefs though, because although there are plenty of critters that could kill you, you are not alone and you have a reference point for orientation… Oh, and the water is clear. Murky water or with a lot of stuff in it (like mangroves) is also unpleasant as heck..!

I love how respectful he is on the local culture, learns the language as bet he can, listens to the people about the water monster and takes part in the local cultures way of fishing. Will also love how he is a Catch and release type of person. I've only ever really seen 1 time where the fish he caught was not released do to the fish just wearing itself out from the fight it was called the Nile Perch. While the fish did die, it did not go to waste as he brought the fish back to the village where nearly the entire village had never seen the creature that the local stories were based on and thus the fish became dinner. The other time was when he was in Chernobyl with permission and was asked if he could catch on the local fishes there for study which he had a hard time due to his Catch and Release nature but also he said that the fish would help figure out what the effects of Nurlucr plant on the local wildlife.

When I was I wanna say 8-9 I went back in the woods with some friends, we’re fishing of an old train bridge and decide to walk swim across to a support in the middle, after a few hours of catching bluegill, I look to the far bank and I see this massive, pale tube just slowly rise up and then slowly sink back down. This is in water that’s maybe chest deep (at my age at the time) and is just a partially deep spot in a mostly knee deep creek system. I honestly don’t know what exactly it was aside from that it was a fish, I could see the out line and that it was moving against the current, but I figured it was a cat fish or carp. I’m roughly six foot tall now at 19(Give or take an inch) and it was easily twice my height then, if I had to estimate it’s size I’d have to say 5-6 ft long.
