@cheesypower32823 сағат бұрын
To be fair, it's basically 1-to-1 for the original- the suitors genuinely were planning to murder Telemachus and rape Penelope. Even the line from Legendary about asking Telemachus to unlock her room so the suitors could go in to "have fun with her" actually comes from the original Odyssey. These men were evil, even by the standards of ancient Greece.

At 8:24 or so when Antinous says soul for the last time you can hear the bow being shot by Odysseus and going into his neck. Another fact about hold them down is you can hear Jorge/Ody’s voice in true chorus, light to start, just at the edges watching but near the end it’s loud and vibrant, up to when he kills him. I interpret that as Ody being the beggar and lurking around the edges, until he finally has enough of them and just snaps, killing Antinous. In the myth the wine Antinous was drinking spills out of his mouth along with his blood. Love that song so much

The reference to Open Arms (and thus reminding him of Polites, the very first of his crew to die and someone he seemed very close to ("Everything's changed since Polites~")) was actually more likely what got the dude killed that very second. Like, "how dare you let those words fall from your filthy mouth" kinda deal. He was still 100% gonna die, but Odysseus might have let him plead his case a bit longer had he not said "open arms". lmfao
@SalinautСағат бұрын
@@RenAsterion Oh, for sure. Fun fact, Eurymachus (the character that pleads with Ody in the song) was the second most prominent suitor after Antinous. Originally, after Antinous was killed, he tried to convince Odysseus that Antinous was behind it all, and that they'll make reparations for all they took (Even though he was very much part of the plotting against Telemachus and Penelope) and Odysseus basically just "Nah, I'm not satisfied with killing y'all yet" and Eurymachus tried to attack but Odysseus just arrow-to-the-chest's him. Also, the first person Telemachus killed is Amphinomus. He was considered the best-behaved of the suitors. Odysseus actually tried to spare him, and warned him to leave before the slaughter. But Athena compelled him to stay anyway, because he was still one of the suitors. He had also tried twice to convince the other suitors not to try and harm Telemachus. Almost... *almost* feel bad for the guy.

and athena proves polites was wiser than all of them, even herself. yes by being safe and ruthless you protect your own but ask yourself: What will be the world you live in be like? It will be dark and horrible if everyone think like you. "Kindness is brave" so ruthlesness is cowardice. Athena in the end understood that, odysseus can't come back from path he set on but even he hopes that such a world can be a thing in future.

@@Unclaimeddemigod yep... and his belief of that mentality gave him peace at after life lets be real even if he was ruthless warrior he would have died there. He didn't die because he was kind and he was definetly not a pacifist (fought for 10 years at a war) but because of that while everyone else is stuck how they died by drowning he wasn't thinking how he got smashed by a cyclops, he was thinking how amazing life is with open arms. even in death he was happy because of open arms
@zuhairZahinZulkifli9 сағат бұрын
to me, i don’t think so. both ideologies of ruthlessness and open arms are neither right or wrong. it is when the believer is blinded by the extremes of both sides of the philosophy that they are consumed by it, literally demonstrated by polites’ death due to being careless of why the lotus eaters didn’t consume any food in the cave in open arms and poseidon’s loss in 600 strike, underestimating the power of his own storm. the story also punished characters that were on the fence of choosing sides, like how odysseus spared polyphemus but still decided to stab and curse him, only for his fleet to be almost entirely destroyed by poseidon later on. the only moments in EPIC where things HAVE gone right were when characters understood the nuance of the philosophy and enacted a plan that made sense in context. like odysseus stabbing polyphemus in the eye and calling himself nobody, or when circe eventually let odysseus and his crew go after learning of their true intentions, among other examples. EPIC was never about choosing sides, polites wasn’t wise for being openly kind to everything, and neither is poseidon wise for destroying anything that got in his way. it was about the journey of understanding the nuance between those two beliefs, told through a poignant story with sacrifices most would not be able to even comprehend. the world is not dark, nor is it light. it is grey with spots of darker tones and lighter ones, and it is through your experience you are able to navigate this confusing world, with hope as your guiding light (penelope). it is imperative you are not blinded by it. if you’ve gotten this far, thanks for reading, i truly appreciate your time, and i hope you have a great day ahead of you :))

There's actually speculation that Odysseus' bow was a Recurve Bow, which a royal like him would have access to at the time but would be very exotic, and requires a different technique to string it. So the problem was never about not being STRONG enough to string the bow, it's that you needed to know the technique, and that rather than try to figure it out, the Suitors all just kept trying to brute-force it in the manner they were familiar with. It's yet another statement on how Odysseus' true strength lies in his cunning mind.

It is interesting how we had monsters kill so many, and yet, it is a HUMAN who presents the most evil and depraved villain. It really is an insight on the nature of evil. Like Scylla says, monsters kill to survive. Monsters kill to eat, and to ward off enemies. Gods kill to maintain order and ensure mortals still fear and respect them. But humans? "Would you fall in love with me again" has made me cry every single time, it's crazy. I completely get wanting the Athena Odysseus duet, but I do think part of the point is that this is the one thing Ody doesn't win at the end. His ideals, and how they impact his relationship with Athena, is what he had to sacrifice to make it home. He can't go back to Open Arms, even though the trauma he endured accidentally convinced Athena he may have been right all along, but it's too late for both of them. @Unclaimeddemigod YES! totally, there's a lot of talented animators in the fandom. I would also recommend watching Jorge's Livestream for the premiere of Ithaca saga.

I love the Odyssey so much! Read the book and even though the whole musical is not accurate, it doesn’t matter because it captured the concept and it did amazing at it! Which leaves the question what’s next? I really hope he does a Broadway show I would love that!

So what happens in the original is Athena disguises him to make him look like a beggar, and if I’m correct to let Us does meet him I haven’t read the Odyssey in a while, so cut me slack but I know he is disguised as a beggar

something that is a bit of a pet peeve is that the choir is saying "Polyphemus" not "Odysseus" like the lyric video is saying
@thedisappointmentofearth13 сағат бұрын
What? I'm pretty sure they are saying 'Odysseus', just pronouncing it differently. Ody, Seh, Ooss
@tutussaimal265913 сағат бұрын
They're meant to be saying Odysseus, just like how in Survive the background is chanting 'Polyphemus'
@KhaoticKosmos13 сағат бұрын
Its definitely chanting 'Odysseyus'. But because its the same type of chanting as Polyphemus(by which I mean they're doing a direct callback) they end up sounding kinda similar.
