Dráka is is the old Norse for dragon which it derives & Icelandic surname for dráki means Dragon. Draca is the old English word for Dragon. Níðhöggr, Fáfnir et cetera as examples. Norse dragons are what people think of when they think of Iconic Dragons in popular media. Far east dragon Lóng 龙 or japanese Ryu translates to serpent not dragon & are really strange magical long flying koi fish. Very different to northern European Norse Dráka Δράκων=drakom or δράκος=drakos meant any large monster for the later form most commonly referred ogre or titan like giant monsters. Greak never had true dragon with Hydras & chimera you mention but Ladon or Python being closer to a Dragon but not really if you look into them. Sorry to upset the Mediterranean but Dragons are a northern European Pagan thing! King of Gwynedd from around 655AD used Y Ddraig Goch as older then when the Saxons arived in England hence Y Ddraig Wen that became associated with the saxons being the white dragon instead of the red for the welsh. Book of Job tells of Leviathan not a dragon so the bible doesn't mention of dragons as such. Beowulf from the 8th century is an old English epic that has a Dragon in a story. Any older was always heraldic depiction or similar alike though dragons but not in story but northern European myths.

The first four legs Dragon in Mythology is Tiamat
@arnijulian6241 Жыл бұрын
@@alberich3963 Tiamat is sea a goddess that is the personification of primordial chaos. She is the confusion that existed before the world. Tâmtu in Akkadian mean sea & Tiamat is a derivation of the older Tamtum Mesopotamian polytheism is not as strait forward as Tiamat is a dragon. Enûma Elish states Tiamet is the other & creator of monsters not that she is a dragon though as a primordial chaos she can take on many forms. She is the mother of god's & monsters alike. Her form is never directly identified & what is mentioned in even in he same writings run contrary to it's self with obvious intention as Chaos does not care for stringent order. Marduk god of storms slays Tiamet but in ancient art she is depicted as a scaled horned gryphon or giant serpent if anything so not a Dragon. Perhaps Tiamat could be said to be an inspiration or mother of dragons as the mother of monsters & god's? My point is Tiamat is depicted with no legs human legs & 4 in proto- gryphon sort of form. Apologies for the length Alberich.

Dragons have got to be the most versatile creatures in history, whether they genuinely existed or just through pure imagination. Dragons are said to be a mix of different animal characteristics. And, they’ve also been depicted to be of different elements which the closest animal we have to this is a Chameleon. In the west, we see dragons as mighty scaly beasts with wings and fire breathing capabilities. Yet, asian cultures view these mighty creatures with a snake-like body with no wings. In certain Asian cultures, they also live underwater or deep in mountain caves. Dragons are just really awesome and diverse. They’re amazing

In a fantasy novel I'm designing, dragons are like natural custodians. They leave their lairs only to destroy whatever thing is upsetting the environment. When they do this, their fiery breath (or other elemental power) reinvigorates and purifies the land to allow for new growth. Dragons are served by wyverns who hunt for them and protect their lairs. There's also a dragonic mortal race they've created called Draken, to which dragons often forge covenants with, allowing draken to access dragonic powers in exchange for letting the dragon perceive the mortal world through their eyes. I pride myself on emphasizing moral shades of grey in my writing, especially when it comes to relationships between people, cultures, and species. When it comes to dragons, I didn't want them to be inherently evil, while involving the whole dragons burning down villages thing. So, I had to create a reason as to why they'd do that. Essentially, I don't see people as inherent good vs inherent evil. It's more like contradicting and opposing needs and desires. Granted, yes, there are dragons who are evil. The idea is that good and evil can exist in individuals, not groups. As for the religious element, I can best put it this way. Gods are on the side of their followers. Except for a small few other races, that's mostly human. Dragons, though, favor nature. The conflict between the two is a representation of man vs nature.

Interestingly, Skyrim has a dragon priest named Volsung, and in their dragon language, Volsung means "horrible." Since a lot of the game's mythology and culture of the local people in it is norse-based, it's entirely possible that the priest was purposefully named after that story with Fafnir.

The story of a warrior killing a dragon with a spear is pagan in its origin, christianity just adapted it and put Saint George as a warrior. In Slavic mythology (and many others) there's a story of a God of Thunder killing a serpent/dragon with a spear/lightning. It's a story that explains the first thunderstorm, the beginning of spring and the ending of winter which the serpent/dragon represents. So in Slavic mythology that would be Perun killing Veles in a shape of a serpent

European dragons were originally giant snakes that, over the course of history, have added more and more characteristics until they become the winged, fire-breathing lizards (actually scaly wolves) that we all know. They even originally spit poison, which over time came to be interpreted as fire. In fact the word dragon comes from the Greco-Roman "Drakkon" or "Drako" which means "(Great) serpent".

These dragon stories are coming from the stars. They are pointing out Draco, the wings of are the Dippers, Ursa Major and Minor. In Ancient Egyptian religion, Taweret is Draco, her legs belong to a lion, her head and body are those of a hippopotamus and the tail of a crocodile trails behind her, something like the Chimera. Typhon was the father of the Chimera, and Typhon is the Thigh of the Ox Leg, which is Ursa Major. The Sumerian Ur means Dog, but also a wild beast, and the "sa" of Ursa, is seen in the hand of goddess Taweret. The Egyptians know Typhon as Set/Seth the god of Chaos, Set's thigh was then chained to the pole star, whereupon it became the Big Dipper (or as the Egyptians called it, “the Bull's Thigh”). Ursa minor was known as the Dog's Tail (Ur), our pole star today, 12,000 years ago it was the She Goat Star we call Vega, known as the Dog Headed Goddess Bau-Gula, mother of the dying and rising god of rebirth and healing "The Child" Damu, associated with the Swine star, the head and first coil of Draco. Seth/Set is found on the Thigh of Orion, seen as Osiris, but cut in half, upper part is Horus, below the belt is Seth, we call The Sword of Orion, the bright star at the tip of his sword, located on his thigh, Hatysa meaning Slaughter, in Hebrew 'haat' means "To Sin", 'yasa' means "savior", read backwards "Savior of Sinners". The Sword is not a sword, but where his Club once hung, cut from the Orion Nebula, a waterfall of Orion's blood, the same blood as Seth's, his brother. The Sumerian word Haya means Grain, he is the god of Scribes, known as the Door-Keeper, the offspring of Typhon and Echidna were Gate keepers, guarding the gate to the underworld. The Club of Orion carries the seed of Osiris, on the Day of the Summer Solstice, you find the Sun at the Tip of Orion's Club, the Sun takes the seed to the cave entrance, the 7 main stars of Ophiuchus, our hidden 13th sign, but on the day of the Winter Solstice, when the Sun Dies in sky for 3 days. On Dec. 21, the sun stops moving southward, pauses, and then starts moving northward, does this next to Spiculum meaning Spear, a little bloody red spot is Sagittarius, in astrology, Sagittarius is the Thigh, in mythology, Sagittarius is Pabilsag, the father of Damu and husband of the goddess Bau-Gula known as the first physician. Ophiuchus can be seen as a Mountain, a Cave Door, or even the Belly of the Goddess, her womb, as Scorpio is the sexual organ, Sagittarius the Hips & Thighs, squeezed in between is Ophiuchus, our 13th, as the club of Orion is the 14th missing part of Osiris, the two location of the Gold and Silver gates, Sagittarius stands at the center of our galaxy, where stars are born, they called gods and goddess. The Golden Gate of the Gods is Sagittarius, play the words "Say There Is A Guest" in reverse, you hear it echo "Sagittarius", The Silver Gate of Man is in Orion, play the words "They All Rule" in reverse to hear Orion is its echo, a little Dragon Speak, Gemini and Taurus is part of this gate, they speak too, "Say Oath" will echo "Taurus" and "Beyond The Mist" will echo "Gemini". Something a Gate-Keeper would know.
