As a native Greek, I greatly appreciate not only the meticulous research you do for each video, but also your attention to correctly pronounce the (difficult for foreigners) Greek names. This is something that has impressed me in all your videos about Greek mythology. Your pronunciation BTW is spot on- one would think that you can actually speak Greek! Thank you for giving people a chance to learn about Greek mythology, while being respectful at the source material at the same time.

The deadly rocks and the whirlpool which inspired the Greek legends of Scylla and Charbydis are actually located in the Calabria region of southern Italy -Scylla is a town on the northern tip of the Straits of Messina -Greek sailors and travellers would have encountered these places on their voyages. Most of the coasts of south Italy and Sicily were colonised by Greeks and the most notable was Naples whose Greek original name is Neapolis -the New City which is not far away.

i like the idea, that her beauty and origin symbolises the gain and prospect of getting to your destination quicker, so you sail through the straight and then when you get closer you see her for the monster she is, the current takes you if you go far one way or the cliffs the other and then at some point when everyone knows the dangers she stops looking beautiful at all.

One of my favorite representations of Scylla is from this made for TV movie Iliad in the 2000s where Ulysses’s ship is in a cave, it’s dark but the torch light, and you just see sailors disappear into the darkness above snatched by a many headed beast with teeth filled maw with the sailor’s screams fading into the chasm above

There is also the version in which she is a daughter of Styx and Pallas, you kept out the coolest parents. I like to think of her as a beautiful Goddess whose danger is in line with her relatives, all of whom are at the highest tier in term of power and authority, perhaps doted upon by Styx so much that no God would dare anger her mother by risking a hero offending her in any way as they trespass in her domain.

Another one I pity. If only one could write a revision that gives her a more happy ending. Could she be protecting something? She never leaves those cliffs, so she could be protecting whatever is there or protecting others from something much worse by assuming the role of a monster that everyone fears. My attempt at making her more likable. Beautiful goddess, crab, snake with dog heads that pop up out of nowhere, would make for a great character design.

Circe accidently turned scylla into the monster as she was just learning to use her powers and didn't know she was capable of doing something like that. Circe had first used the transformation potion on gluacos and he turned into a god, and she thought the potion turns people on the outside into who they truly are on the inside, so she used the potion on scylla and thought she would grow long teeth amd lose her beautiful skin(as scylla was snotty according to circe) but scylla turned into a monster and later circe came to realise that the potion doesn't turn people into their true selves but what she wants them to be

There is a kaiju in Godzilla: King of the Monsters named Scylla (and according to the credits montage, she is the same as Scylla in Greek mythology). However, this version of Scylla resembles a hybrid of a crab, a spider, a squid, and an ammonite (with a head resembling Cthulhu's). She was one of the kaiju awakened by King Ghidorah along with Rodan, Methuselah, Behemoth, and a new female MUTO.

when i was young, it would be obvious to me this was a cautionary tale for mariners to stay away from the straits of messina, for there are sharp reefs there and strong undertow, but these things are often much more literal than what we give them credit for. could it be they were really referencing a place where cthylla would hang out?

Any chance there could be like an update later on that DOES include her!? (Sadly, I don’t get to play the game myself, but I really enjoy watching certain gamers play these kinda games. Been watching Beaver play this one)
