One thing you didn't mention was how frequently snakes fight storm deities. I find it so fascinating about the mythology that nearly every culture has a storm god fighting a snake creature.

@@colinpreston80 One theory I heard from the Mythological podcast is that maybe it's to explain rainbows (a fallen serpent) appearing after thunderstorms (the climatic battles)?
@bardmadsen69565 ай бұрын
@@colinpreston80 I KNOW why. The Omnipotent of essentially every worldwide tradition is from The Pleiades. It is all about The Taurid Meteor Stream, that appears to radiate from this star cluster. It is shown symbolically in Lascaux Cave Art, Gobekli Tepe, Tauroctony, and our children carry on the exact same tradition, at the exact same time, going around asking strangers if it will be a bad or good outcome when crossing The Halloween Fireballs (The Taurids)! See my compendium on the subject. It is very strange, I don't know how EVERYBODY missed it, but people will not listen, it is like a traumatic genetic memory of space falls. The Serpent is comet / superbolide, beyond doubt.

The reason why Escapius had snakes as his symbol was because snakes venom was used in ancient medicine as well as in today's medicine because of its properties that have benefits for numbing and other properties that are unique to snakes. Also the reason why the ancient world was so obsessed with their renewal properties is because they were able to shed their skins and wish they thought that was a way of rejuvenating or being reborn.

PBS Eons did a show on the evolution of snakes upon which they called them our rivals. We evolved from arboreal ancestors and snakes would be a common threat maybe the most common threat in dence tree cover. Our eyes and minds have evolved to see snakes in hiding more easily then spotting any other hidden animals. I believe they also said spitting cobras might have evolved in response to our ancestors chucking rocks and stick at cobras as they would need a range option for defense. By that reasoning, our ancestors probably also contributed to the black mabas aggressive behavior as well.

There’s the story of the Bronze Snake which Moses placed on top of a pole. At the time God was punishing the Hebrews for complaining and doubting him as they wander the wilderness. He summoned venomous snake and bit any doubters in the process. However, the Bronze Snake heals all the bitten who look upon and repent. Indicating those who believe will be healed, and another symbolic meaning of snakes as a symbol of healing.
