As someone who got to study classical Sanskrit literature at University in Canada I was greatly blessed. There is a similar antipathy to the Humanites and Classics in Western universities. Everyone has been enamoured by technology and seem driven to use only logic as a system of thought. Our machines own us, and our entire civilizations both Eastern and Western are being commodified and scourged. They are being hollowed out and people here have no idea of whence they have come. Yet there is hope. The practice of Hatha yoga, Vedic astrology, and vegetarianism brings a renewed fascination in Western peoples for South Asian philosophies and religions.

Dear Ann, people of Asia turn to materialistic life and who can bring them back?
@drugsmusic12385 жыл бұрын
Jorgi Kralj, South Asia/India/Bharat can never become materialistic,. Yoga went from India to the world, what happend to it? Western countries tried patenting yoga. LOL This is West/Europe/Middle East, who came to our country and destroyed everything LOOTED everything apart made country which was leading in the world into 2% GDP country and went by dividing the country. with corers of dead bodies of Hindu/Sikhs. #shameless west and #shameless Europe. and yet coming shamelessly asking for Hatha Yoga, Vedas and Vedic astrology. #shameless
@SusanHopkinson5 жыл бұрын
Prasanjeet it was an Indian, Bikram Choudhury, who tried to patent yoga, not Westerners. Indians have already become materialistic and one only needs to look at the corruption and cheating that goes on in everyday life to see how far most Indians are from living a spiritual life. If yoga had not been adopted with such enthusiasm by modern Western society it would not be as popular as it has become in India itself. This jingoistic Indian attitude (which applies equally to Nepal) is the opposite of yoga and spirituality.
@drugsmusic12385 жыл бұрын
Susan Hopkinson, wrong, Westerners tried to patient yoga, Indian born doesnt mean he is Indian citizen, second thing yoga is already popular before westerners touched it here in India, yoga dont need westerners, westerner need yoga, DO YOU UNDERSTAND?? it is backbone of Indian civilization and if you keep speaking filth about Indian then yoga will defiantly destroy you, initially everything looks fine. I will repeat Europe/West is full of shit all you did is detroyed my country now shamelessly claiming our civilization.

I don't understand why people feel so rebellious when this guy here tries to revive an old tradition of ancient Indian knowledge, that is Sanskrit. He is not talking of Separatism, Casteism, or any of the linguistic differences. All he is doing is uniting the whole of India on the basis of Sanskrit language, because that's the only thing that holds us all. Otherwise how can you expect unity in such a diversified land of different languages, tastes, cultures and traditions?
@SumanKumarSahooIITR9 жыл бұрын
***** Do you know that the word 'Shri' in your profile name has its origin in Sanskrit? I am from Odisha and most of the words we use are Sanskrit words, although most of us don't know about it. These words are not borrowed from Sanskrit and they are even used in other languages like Hindi, Telugu etc. So although I never spoken Hindi for 18 years, I learnt it in just 6 months and all the credit here goes to Sanskrit because that was the linkage between the two languages.
@SumanKumarSahooIITR9 жыл бұрын
***** Don't you know anything about linguistics? Languages are never created on its own, they are influenced by ancient cultures and traditions. You can't understand this as you were never a part of India, you were just some outsiders, for you can never comprehend a greater unity in India and only boast of little things. I am very proud that my culture once belonged to the ancient India and the living proof is Sanskrit.

Respect for your speech on the linguistic lifeline of India. Due to livelihood, Indians are now nearly 100% western educated, in fact, many can even think in English (of course there is nothing wrong at all as English is Lingua Franca) and thus are unknowingly vanishing their linguistic identity as well. In that context, such an analytical and precise speech can definitely boost the interest of Indians ( and Non-Indian as well) to learn this language of God and can explore the plethora of knowledge-dimensions of Vedas for the sake of humanity across the globe.

Sanskrit was widely spoken and was the link language in the multicultural/multilingual India until about a thousand years ago. The grammar of the language was codified perhaps several thousand years earlier, maintaining its structure well over the millennia. The revival of interest in it in the west can be attributed to the colonial scholars of the 19th century. However, the hypothesis of a proto-Indo-European language created by the western linguists (no evidence exists to date to prove this hypothesis) and condemning Sanskrit to the limited status of liturgical language has hampered its study on a larger scale in the present times. Please consider produce further videos on this subject. Thanks.
@agookchild2 жыл бұрын
This is very powerful. 90% of what we know today about Sanskrit is from the perspective of colonial scholars and propagandists. I believe it’s very possible that these British, French and German scholars were afraid of finding their cultural roots going back to India. (Sanskrit > Latin/Greek/Germanic) It would be difficult to colonize an individual if you found out she was your great-grand mother.

If you really want to revive Sanskrit, spare fifteen minutes everyday to learn it. If a million people do it, the language can be revived quite easily. Once there are enough people who understand the language, there will soon be a demand for TV channels, series, comic strips, magazines and newspapers in the language. We will soon have people communicating with each other in the language. In this day of the internet, it is not very difficult to revive a language like Sanskrit. Those who know Malayalam, Kannada or Telugu already know a lot of Sanskrit, though they might not realize it themselves. Most Indians understand words like jalam, vanam, gaganam, parivartanam, paryatanam, satyam, asatyam, agni even if they have received no formal training in Sanskrit. Just put in some effort, and help revive this beautiful language. And for God's sake, please do not coerce anyone to learn the language. Please do not force those who are not interested. That is the biggest damage you can do to the language.

As a result, I am also loving people more and more and I see in the ordinary people, highly principled Indians with a strong sense of ethics that many of us did not have in colleges. You see we always talked about people robbing each other off in the ordinary markets but we never talked about dishonesty amongst students when it comes to giving examinations or writing a paper. I totally agree with you. However, I am not a Sanskrit scholar . I am in Computer Science doctoral research. I wish I knew sanskrit. Your lectures are amazing and so is your work in linguistics. Believe it or not, Sanskrit is the only language much suitable for Speech Recognition and Artificial Intelligence in Computer field. The reason is very simple. It's alphabets (Mainly Devnagari Scripts) is phonetic scripts and you write what you speak. There is no need for pronunciation for words. Sanskrit is well known for its rigid, structured and highly developed grammar. It is almost like it can be represented by mathematical logic. The main reason why Sanskrit is good for Artificial Intelligence is that in any sentence in Sanskrit language, every words used contains hidden intelligence. For simple example - Aham Griham Gachhami ( I home go - I go home ). Aham represent not only "I" but also gives its activity as a subject. Griham "home" represent as object with something happening on and finally Gachhami "go" always means "I'''s activity or it is only associated with "I". The sentence does not need to interpolate but only gives the clear meaning also unique words associated with "I go home". This is the reason why Sanskrit is suitable for speech recognition and Artificial Intelligence in Computer field.

Oh it's simple . It's because of inferiority complex within you and also because of the brainwashing that you went through studying Aryan Invasion Theory and things like that , which now are proven as wrong and are out of curriculum in every university across the world but in India . Get cultured . My perception was that South Indians are more cultured than North Indians but people like you confuse me sometimes.

Sanskrit has great literature. The grammar is quite sophisticated primarily because of Panini's works. There is a greater need to study it. I agree. But, what I find objectionable, is there are other independent traditions of knowledge which has to be recognised (apart from Sanskrit). In the name of glorifying Sanskrit, he is belittling other languages (especially Dravidian) - which is quite ironical. I think it would be better for him to stick to what he knows (i.e., Sanskrit) than generalising about what he does not know.

Aryan in Sanskrit means Noble person and is used to address in respect. Shiva the original god of the world and creator of Tamil as well, derived another language called Sanskrit out of it. The basic alphabet and classification and differentiation of vowels and consonants is proof to that. There isn't any big difference between Tamil alphabet and Sanskrit alphabet. Except that in Sanskrit, it is more pronounced. The letters ळ & ळ्ह (ള & ഴ) is found in vedic Sanskrit and only Tamil and Malayalam use them! Shiva, the Aadi-Yogi taught Ayurveda and Yoga. He taught the Vedas & Upanishads, the Ramayana and puranas. The eyes of the Vedas - Jyotishaastra was taught by his son Karthikeya or Muruga or Subrahmanya (of Brahma)!. His other son Ganapati wrote the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Epics Mahabharata etc. His consort Parvati was daughter of Himalayas and therefore he migrated northwards and settled in Kailasa mountains. Thus the vedic religion of Purusha, Brahma and Sakti, was propagated north! The fisherwoman's son Vyaasa advised Ganapati to write the scriptures. Later he taught it to his disciples and asked them to propagate essence of dharma throughout the different parts of the world. Vysambaaya went North India and taught the Vedas to the North Indians who took it further west as well to Europe via middle East crossing Hindukush & Afghanistan & Iran and even to Africa by the sea. The Naga worship is very common in the Western Indian peninsula of Kerala. In Kerala, the aristocratic Kshatriya/warrior class families had a specially debated area near their homes dedicated to the Naga God & goddess namely NagaRaja & NagaRani. That place is thick with forest trees and plants and nobody is to cut any of them.

There are few ethnic groups living in the mountainous regions of Karakoram and Hindukush who Speak Shina, Khowar and Kalasha languages and most of terms and words in their language comprises of Sanskrit , physical features of these people are very different from North and South Indians, they have fair complexion and resemble with Iranians and Europeans, these ethnic groups remained isolated for many centuries due to remoteness and my question is that how they got in contact with the Sanskrit speaking people of India in earlier times

Great enlightenment after your lecture. I don't know who is Tajuddin , there are many great Muslim personalities, in the Freedom struggle, and Dr.BR. Ambedhkar is definitely an out spoken, daring personality. It's the Nehru's Greed for power, Which bifurcated the Nation and he is the betrayal of our mother land. He betrayed BOSE and even till today, the 56 inches chest, could not find BOSE. I think, he is waiting for the west Bengal elections to approach.

Incorrect. Vedic Sanskrit is first attested around 1400 BCE, this is confirmed by contemporaneous Mittani Aryan. The earliest Tamil literature is from only 300 BCE. On the other hand, Hittite is attested as early as 1700 BCE, and Mycenaean Greek as early as Vedic Sanskrit. Tamil doesn't even begin to compare in terms of the date of earliest attestation. BTW, do you know The oldest grammar form of Tamil itself has Sanskrit Name and first chairman of Sangam, Agastya too has a Sanskrit name? Even if I take this argument that 90% of Sanskrit words have Tamil origin then will you pl enlighten how despite being non Indian Sanskrit did had such origin for max words. Where the Tamils of those days sending packets of words to Europe with Pegion?
