What a woman💜 Met her in church sitting right behind me! She touched my arm and rubbed it saying she liked my shirt! I never washed that shirt lol (she was brilliant) Sheila you remember giving my sister a call after church? (Bam was the preacher)

For a world class drummer, she really isn’t a bad singer is she. Nice natural vibrato.

Always had a soft spot for this song on her debut album. It showed a different side of her. Nice to hear a live version !

Her bassist, pre-Levi Seacer, was sooooo adorable!

Love this song. I understand Prince always dedicated it to Shelia when he sung it.

Unfortunately most people only see her as a Prince "protege" but the truth is that she was so much more than just that......
@angelbeijer8 жыл бұрын
always have been, even before him...wrote most good songs herself but ppl just wanted the "Prince" ones... THIS is my favorite all time!!!
@johnnierock10907 жыл бұрын
Angel_IQue Nieukoop was there ever a extended studio version of this recorded with the "Sitting at the cafe" adlibs at the end? I've also heard that in Prince's demo version of the song.

Apart from the fact he wrote and produced and played every note she played ..not to mention making love to her ..so yeah a protégée

@@angelbeijer say what ? Prince wrote every note of this
@stylecollective-qt9um3 жыл бұрын
@@jonylawson73 But the point is that she was an industry recognised musician before they came together, with him even knowing of her professional pedigree on first meeting. Can he be responsible for introducing her to the public at large? Yes. But WITHIN the music industry, amongst their peers, she was already a bad ass, with her career going all the way back to playing with Con Funk Shun (you might want to look them up), and working with Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye, and Michael Jackson. You know that tingly percussion on "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough"? Yeah, that would be our girl. We're not going to pigeon hole ad disrespect women holding their own within their field here and chalk their entire existence up to a man, when they came to the table with the goods that gave him something to work with in the first place. There's reason why women like Sheila, Wendy and Lisa have gone on to have stellar long term music CAREERS vs. the rest of the dolls he uitilzed for his fantastical projections

This is so freakin cool! Thanks. Those lead and bass solos were impressive, but they went a little long. Shiela's little sweet voice, love me some Shiela! Way more than a protégé..they were there for each other thru it all.

MrOshun was her song originally... Prince and sheila wrote it together for her album

You got to be kidding. Prince's version is so much more soulful with his falsetto voice, guitar and Wendy and Lisa singing backup. Sheila never did this song justice, he should have kept it for himself
@kjs97566 жыл бұрын
Jgutie 15 Just seeing this but I SO agree!! I love Sheila, but nothing compares to Prince's performance of this at his '84 birthday show. It was just so good. And Wendy and Lisa made it all better!
