NÄCKEN Modern Black V.2 Watch Review

One of my viewers had dropped in for a coffee the other day as he had just purchased this watch.
He wanted to see if I was interested in playing with it and possibly reviewing it so he asked me to keep it for a few weeks...
He really wanted to hide it from this wife, because he had already purchased way too many watches for the month and did not want to spend another night in the dog house 😊😂

There are very few watches without design flaws including Black Bays, for that price and to be honest the Miyota 9000 series movements are in my opinion just as good, if not better than ETA movements and slimmer. That watch is a little gem a tad expensive if you compare what our Asian friends are producing, for quality over price . love the logo, something you can relate to unlike some brands that are impossible to pronounce let alone read Keep them coming Pete love your reviews :)

It’s nice to hear the way you compliment the finishing I don’t have anything as nice as your Tudor to compare my swiftsure too but it compares well at least equally to a few seikos I have in the $1-1.2k range the sarx057 and spb143

Great to see you highlight NTH. They produce really comfortable, well-built watches. I own the Scorpeńe (blue dial) and it’s a wonderful and beautifully interesting watch. It’s essentially a pilot/diver hybrid. The dial is gorgeous and busy. Owned the Tikuna in the past and liked it a lot too.

I own the blue Scorpene as well. I think they only made about 50 of them. I don't wear it a whole lot anymore I don't know why. It is extremely well built and thin too. The crown feels super solid and insane lume. It's basically a blue Sinn 857s homage thats done very very well.

I understand that some take issue with originality of design. A friend was wearing this same watch but with the gilt hands and indices. From a distant it looked l a Tudor. When he showed it to me I was sort of blown away with the quality. I also forgot that I also own an NTH diver that really is more of an original design that takes very few ques from any watch other brand. So I'm saying there is enough from the NTH brand to satisfy many many watch enthusiasts. If I were new to the world of watches this would be a great brand to get started with and if you are like me a very good brand to add to a collection.

To me a little rotor wobble or noise is a charm Do I want it in all my watches nah but when it’s there and it’s working fine then it’s a nice reminder of the mechanical nature of my watch

I used to own the Nacken Renegade with the beautiful gradient dial. I sold it to a mate with the caveat that if he ever decided to sell it I would get the first crack at it. It's been three years now 🤣 It was a fantastic watch.

Nice. Lots of polarized opinions for NTH.I have both a blue and a black 2K1 Thresher. Fantastic case design and finish, Pealgos hints, but not out and out homage, as you said, smooth flexible bracelet. Better than a £1000 longines, Squale or similar pricced Seiko. Glad you brought this along.

I'm a fan, own two (Scorpene, Scorpene White), have owned others, except all of them are the v1 Sub version, Big Crown style, without the crown guards. Regarding the male endlinks... I prefer female endlinks by a mile, except when a design mitigates male endlinks with enough drop/curve from the lugs, and NTH is a shining example of this. Unless it is purely aesthetics or you have a very much smaller wrist (7" here), fit is a non-issue, and the three-link bracelet design makes for one of the more comfortable wearing bracelets around.

Ive got the Tiger Concept , Steinhart, and Saint Martin versions , (purchased during drug and alcohol-fueled buying sprees)referencing the same look as the NtH version. The Steinhart has a swiss movement ,while the San Martin has better lume and the Tiger Concept watch is visually more appealing as it very closely mimics the mid-70s Tudor submariner w/snowflake hands, somehow this one seems to look better, but I am more into the black bay visuals than the pelagos. My only complaint with the Nth is for that price, it should have a better movement. What I don't understand is the complete vacuum of watches like this but with quartz movements? If there were quartz version of any of these I would have to get another job. or two

Nice video. I have a ver.1 Baracuda from NTH. The closest thing you can get to a BB58 and without being a 1-to-1 homage. Love the quality to price ratio, no, actually the quality... regardless of the modest price point. And the price makes you less worried about daily use compared to luxury pieces.

I have a blue devil ray first edition with an stp1-11 on it that’s a lume monster 600 m beater with zero issues but a busted crown by my toddler.. so good stuff coming out of NTH

I have a number of NTH because I am a fan of the size and case. I have a few iterations of the V1 case, without the crown guards. I just got the v2 case with the Todaro recently. Because of this brand, I cannot forsee buying a Tudor anytime soon because of the thiness here. Being I have a small 6.25 inch wrist, this is one of the reasons why I like them. I agree with your review and the "negatives" that you listed. But none of them are deal breakers in my opinion. Great shots and great review.

Excellent watch and very nicely executed as you say. However the crown really looks a bit odd. I'd prefer a slightly bigger crown without crown guards. And the wearability would benefit from inverted middle links of the end links. Cheers Pete!

As far as bezel tightness it’s intentional and the owner states they smooth out with time I’m breaking my new swiftsure in now and it’s definitely smoother than day one I spend some time rotating the bezel while I watch tv

Think the matte bezel looks great. Really don't like the glossy ceramic ones that seems to be on everything these days. Also very nice set of dimensions. I'm a fan of applied indices which this watch doesn't have, but these painted on ones look pretty good, and are probably the reason those snowflake hands fit on this dial. A quick adjust system on the bracelet would have been nice. Overall though, I like it!

Peter, tell your 'viewer', the best strategy to use is to upscale a better watch for the wifey every time you buy your watch. Last, when I got myself a Tudor Pelagos 500m blue, I went and bought my wife a JLC Reverso. My wife now looks forward to seeing every one of my new watch, cause she knows she's getting a better one ... soon!

I really like this, its really well done, prefer their devilray personally, , but there are a lot of these from china and the differences are very small, fine brushing polished bevels, etc etc, the only difference is the case height. This is a general problem now for micro brands the san martin type watches have pushed up quality to same or above micro brands at lower costs, so now micro brands really have to do something different to survive as that can't compete on quality for price. I think they should with with high end but commercial movements and embellish them.

Nice watch but a little too expensive in my opinion. Unfortunately the lume of my Nacken is far from good: the hands are almost enough bright in dark conditions (nothing special though) but it seems that someone forgot to put the superluminova in the indexes. Maybe a QC problem of my watch

Chris does a fantastic watch. I’ve had a couple of NTHs and they have all been awesome. ONLY element I feel that let’s then down is the rotor wobble. I would love to see this with a unidirectional calibre even if some thickness is sacrificed.

Hi Peter, great video! I think the negatives of this watch outweigh the positives relative to the price they want. I should also add that it is an homage in its design. If the viewer is going to seriously get into watch collecting, the design will grow old fast.

Hi Mark, as a repeat customer of yours , it surprised me to see your view of this brand, considering you have sold out of most NTH models that you stocked. I own several of your lSLANDERS and even though most are homages to certain SEIKOS, i appreciated the value equation you offered and the upgraded specs. A no brainer as they say. I really like the snowflake hands especially in this black/white configuration and would not consider spending TUDOR dollars to get into one. That leaves me more to spend at LIW. 😊
