Perfect explication on how D-Thatch works. Only been using it since late spring ‘18 and just put an app down a few days ago. Gotta see it with own eyes. After a few apps just finger down in the grass and you see that dark-breaking down moist dead grass; that would otherwise be dry crunchy and preventing water and light from the growing grass.

So I had a plastic mat on the lawn for 45 mins ( temp in the high 80’s) and it completely killed my grass in that spot. I was pissed at myself because we had just bought the home and this is my first lawn. I used the D-thatch on that spot without much optimism, but to my delight it has completely(well 80%) recovered. I am planning an overseed this fall and with the D-thatch, Are8 and RGS I cannot wait to see the results. I am not doing a mechanical aeration and I was concerned about the need for it but after seeing the results of just the Dthatch I am no longer worried about it. Thanks for all the help, your product are🔥🔥🔥

@@mrlepercon it was very easy to throw down with the Ortho hose end sprayer. I also determined that I'm a slow walker, so I dialed it back to 2.5oz...lol This past weekend, I hit the entire yard with RGS and Air8 on Saturday, and then a round of D-Thatch on Sunday. I am aiming to overseed the back yard labor day weekend, so the timing just happened to line up. While I was in the back yard, I came across a area that was bare for a while. What is funny in the back yard that had a small bare area. I threw down some seed Months ago and it never took. Guess what? Those seeds started germinating some time after that first round of Air8/D-Thatch....

Holy cow, that's very impressive grow in from a death spray. I wish I would have applied D-Thatch to all of the dead poa that grew in when winter killed off 60% of my yard from a late renovation. I've still got some thin areas, but for the most part 98% of my yard has grown in. I've got an area that I'm tossing my clippings into where it's devoid of mostly grass and weeds. Would D-Thatch help break those areas down quicker, or can I use blackstrap molasses? I've already got most of the NEX-T products on hand, and could hit it with some RGS & Humic 12.

Erik Naso you’ll need several applications anyway depending on the thickness of the thatch layer to see results. I have applied it 3 times this year and it’s looking like I’m finally seeing some thinning of thatch. That 5 gal container goes a long way but you may end up using it several times You can also go half with your neighbor/fam member I doubt they’ll have smaller quantities because they’re just starting to sell to the general public. He has commented before they may offer smaller quantities in the future

Shouldn’t have any negative affect. The N in D-Thatch is so low. I use D-Thatch in my Zoysia Lawn (Florida) There’s not a whole lot you can mess up with Johns products. As always follow the label and go out with the lower rate first. However, do you really have a thatch problem if you have the need to “overseed and bare spots”? You can use the D Thatch but I would also recommend using the RGS to help improve soil quality. Obviously I can’t see the lawn your referring to but based on what you said, either one would be good just depends on what your trying to target.

I've really seen some good growth / rebound after having an issue with leaf spot in mid April in VA. The D-Thatch seemed to really make the TF respond with new growth after using it. About a week after Strobe / Triclopyr4 1st app of the year I saw new growth but the D-T really accentuated it in my opinion. I will use D-T on my Zoysia too ! Thanks for the reply.

I’m considering your D-Thatch product vs. investing in a power rake Have considerable heat stressed/dead KBG in my front lawn in addition to 1-1/2 of thatch layer. Plan to overseed in the fall but I need to reduce the amount of dead grass/thatch prior to doing so I know every lawn is its own ecosystem and results must vary but how soon do you see results as far as thatch reduction? And how late can you apply this product in the northeast? Many thanks

Jose Flores the reaction is fast, but it sounds like you may need to do some mechanical unfortunately. If you applied two apps within 30 days, it will respond, maybe 50% reduction. Could be more, but moisture will help as well to break it faster

So, can you explain whats happening here? Is the molasses giving life to "extra" bacteria and that bacteria can also eat toxins and poisons? Generally what is happening here?
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 6 жыл бұрын
here it is: the sugars (molasses) feed certain bacteria, namely yeasts, we also add yeasts, a little N, Humic, and a few other goodies that energize the composters. Heat plays a roll in faster reproduction when all the items are together and exposed to the environment. As far as toxins and poisons, there are bacteria that does that, but that's not what's happening here.

So, if you toast your yard with herbicide don't try to fix it with nitrogen. Assuming your grass can self repair, soil amendments are the best way to help it do that.

You are correct. It is what many people refer to as thatch. It is litter.

John, thanks for the quick response. Sorry to be so anal, but to be more specific.can you purchase individual one gallon jugs of dthatch or do you have to buy the one gallon as part of the build a box purchase? I have already purchased the bio-stim package as well as four gallons of green punch. I have a 4000 sq ft lawn so there is no way I will use more than one gallon of dthatch in a two year period. Thanks. Chris

chris Luckey unfortunately no, you’d need a four pack, but using RGS, Air8, dthatch, and microgreene would Be a good combo.
