Hi Craig, much appreciate the comment and yes great piece of kit from WWS again! The New N gauge applicator gives really good even coverage for 1 and 2mm static grass and would highly recommend it 😊 cheers Gary

Another excellent video, but I just wish that one day it will all be finished and we can see it running. Mind you, the new layout will prove to be the best, I am sure!

Hi Thank you for the feedback, I too hope one day for it to be finished, sooner rather than later! 🤣🤣I do however think it is worth the change to the new track plan so hopefully I will be back onto where I left off a month ago. Cheers Gary

@@SC68 thanks Gary, I did a bit of shopping last night, a few consumables to get started from WWS, and an applicator component kit from Railwayscenics (I chose the heavy duty ion generator too!) I'll 3D print a body for it, should be fun.

Hi Gary - Excellent update. Wow you are going to town on the new station layout. Personally I prefer this new version over the old one. The grass applicator section was brilliant although it left me a little miffed. I saw Martin of WSScenics at Ali Pali on Sunday, 20th March 2022. H gave me a personal demo of the grass applicator, so impressed I purchased one but I did say it was for my N Gauge layout. All he said was that it only comes with one sieve and it is really to big for 1 and 2mm grass. So be careful when shaking it out. I can only think that he thought about what I and very likely other have said and came out with the new N Gauge one. Wonder if you can purchase the new sieve as a separate item. Looking forward to part 2, I am thinking about a large hay field on mine but not sure how to go about it and what grass and size to use. Regards Chris

Hi Chris hope you feeling a bit better after the Covid? Great feedback and pleased you like the new plans! Yes the applicator is very new but I’ve spoken with Martyn at WWS and unfortunately he informs me that the grilles come as part of the complete plastic assembly with the no option to just sell the grills so sorry about that. You might have to stick with your peanut butter lid option 😉 thanks once again for your comments and take care cheers Gary

Most enjoyable Gary, I have used the WWS micro for all my grass, what a pain having to keep filling the mini hopper. I need a bigger unit but one made for "N" and the smaller grasses. I like the new station layout and as it is based on a real station you know it will look and work well. It will fill that space perfectly and provide more operational fun. All the best
@SC682 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, Glad to hear you enjoyed the video 😀Yes you certainly do have some large areas of static grass to cover so you need a big hopper and a small grille size! Please that you like the station and I agree as its 'based' on a real station it should work well, I think I just need to tweak the track plan for the goods yard to make it easier to function. Yes don't think it looks too tight for space so very pleased 😁😁Cheers Gary

Another great video Gary. I do admire your planning outlook. If I could give you one little tip in planning - A.U.A.P. (always use a pencil!). Like the rest of your followers, looking forward to seeing the progress from the ‘old’ to the ‘new’ (or should that be the other way round! 👍

Hi Martin, Thank you Martin, my planning is not great or maybe I just change my mind way too much, I think it comes with the territory of me being a beginner in the hobby and did not understand how railways actually work regarding track plan layouts. However, I am sold now on this plan, honest (With maybe a few tweaks here and there 😁) but I do think it offers so much more as a layout plan as well as a modelling challenge! And yes a pencil and a rubber would be far better than my permanent ink pen !! Cheers Gary

Hi Michael yes I didn’t really go into the detail of the previous plans of which there has been a few but really happy with my latest design as it’s based on a real location! Really appreciate you leaving a comment. Cheers Gary

That was all very interesting Gary. Look forward to part 2 of the static grass tutorial. I am going to have a good look at WWS products when I go to the Warley Exhibition. I've got some of their weathering powders on the way to help with weathering the viaduct. The new track plan is and improvement. It sits in the space as if it has always been there. Being based on a real place you know it will work operationally. I like the idea of using an island platform, and having some filled in bay platforms would I think work well. There were plenty of old branch bays that were redundant by the 1940s and 1950s. Stephen
@SC682 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, Thank you for the great feedback, much appreciated! The WWS weathering powders are great I use them all the time. That's a very good point about copying a real place and I feel more comfortable modelling it as well as I have got lots of photo references and can even copy the scenery from modern day as only 45 minutes from where I live. The Island platform is something different and hopefully should look great but the real challenge will be the canopies in N gauge! I am leaning more towards including the disused bays so it can be better related to and adds interest. Cheers Gary

Greetings SC68 and hello Gary 👋 I have to agree with Andy 😲 and that you should put the old layout back 😳🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Basing it on a real location is a fantastic idea 💡and will really pay dividends 😎 With your love of detail, being able to see the 'real thing" is bound to help you so much 👌 exciting tines ahead 😇 Don't see much scope for too much mud though 😫 but I expect those ashpits will be in some state 😉 With real trains and an excellent tutorial 🤩 definitely a brilliant update 🌞 Very best wishes from the Emerald Isle ☘️

Hi Paul of The Emerald Isle ☘️ thanks for the great feedback and so pleased you like the new plans and your spot on with what you say because that’s one of the reasons why I’ve planned it that way! I’ve also challenged myself with all these new scratch built buildings but so looking forward to modelling them! Take care cheers Gary

Hiya Gary, great video, good plans and looking forward to next episode. I have to say the WWS could have supplied a set of gauzes much cheaper than us having to buy another static grass applicator. I did buy it too but felt ripped off as it is just the mesh size difference from a micro pro.. All the best, Chris
@SC682 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris hope you feeling a bit better I heard you have not been too well? Thank you for your feedback and pleased you like the new plans! Yes the applicator difference between the Micro Pro and the N Gauge is just the grille hole size. I’ve spoken with Martyn at WWS and unfortunately he informs me that the grilles come as part of the complete plastic assembly with the no option to just sell the grills so sorry about that. Thanks once again for your comments and take care cheers Gary

Hi Gary - looking forward to seeing the new station come to life. Like all good layouts the changes make them more interesting - this is certainly true in your own case. Layout was good before but this will make it even better. I know space will still be at a premium but if you can suggest using medium radius points in place of set track ones where possible. Great update. Cheers Euan
@SC682 жыл бұрын
HI Euan, Great feedback as always but I think I do need to stay true to this track plan and not to change again 😆 ! I tried the track plan with Medium rad points especially for the goods loop but just loose too much length on the loops and just wanted to standardise with one size of point etc....Its a shame they don't fit to my ambitious plan but I've not had any issues with the set track points so sticking with them but do realise they don't look as realistic, another compromise I'm afraid but really appreciate what your saying. Cheers Gary

N seems like it would be a fun scale to model in. and it could probably fit a small layuout in the space I would have for a layout. My only issues I have with it is they don't make the specific Locomotives I would want to run at this scale. There are VERY EXACT Specific Locomotives I would want to operate as my fleet of Locomotives but I have not found anyone making those specific CANADIAN STEAM locomotives at this small scale. You see famous locos from other countries etc etc but not things like Empress (2816), 2860, 2850, 2839, 2858, or the remaining preserved Selkirks in this tiny scale.
@SC682 жыл бұрын
Hi N gauge is great to work with and you can cram a lot into a small area! Not sure on the availability of locos for Canadian or continental railways as only use the Farish range and they are all UK locos. Thanks for leaving a comment, much appreciated! Cheers Gary

One big advert for WWS. Found them not too helpful, sorry.
@SC682 жыл бұрын
Hi you may not be aware that I do purchase all of my WWS products and do this out of choice as I think they are very good quality and well priced. I made it clear in the video that the N gauge applicator was provided to me to trial out and provide WWS with feedback and I was not disappointed by it and hopefully the demo showed that? It a real shame that you’ve had a bad experience with WWS as a great bunch of guys but I take on board your feedback. Cheers Gary
