Nice little engine, i used to be a member of an "n gauge" model railway club, and i always thought that the couplings looked oversize and too light, which causes the non coupling issue. there are "magnetic couplings" available now, so maybe that would solve the coupling issue.

I was thinking about better coupling options for N gauge I will have a look at Magnetic couplings, thank you for the info
