It’s so nice to see someone run a train at close as real speed. Nothing bothers more then a speeding train going round and round way to fast. Great videos , thank you

It looks like it was worth every bit of the effort and time to get the extension loops right David. Thanks for updating us on the progress, as there are many of us who really enjoy watching your layout develop. I'm sorry that your long wheelbase steam locos aren't happy exploring the full extent of the rail line, but that's a problem the railroads have had for a long time.
@nessriverrailroad12992 жыл бұрын
Cheers Art, I have seen that many people have rules on sections of their layout restricting certain types of locos to areas so I guess that’s what I’ll do now.

Looks grate. Nice and smooth run on the loop there. I’m over in the states in Pennsylvania. And yes there’s many new rail lines that are to tight of a curve now for old steamers so not running a steam locomotive on a branch is actually prototypical. Still grate work. Shared it with my wife as it’s 2am and we are both still awake. And she laughed when I said what’s the boy wonder from down under got up to tonight. Hopefully your not offended I say that as I’m always amazed by your work.

No offence at all, I’ll take it as a complement. You’re too kind. Thanks for the feedback on the branchline steam situation.

Coming along well. Excellent work. You still have room for more railyards and can go double decker on the opposite side as well. You still have alot more potential with this layout.

It is a shame, I had hoped it would be better. They can come up the other way so maybe the rule will be they can only come down this grade.

Job well done 👍. How wide (overall bench work) is your reverse loop at the yard, peninsula and the helix? And what is the track radius on them?
@nessriverrailroad12992 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to measure it for you. The peninsula is roughly 24 inch radius. The returns at the yard and half way down the other side are 16 inch radius.
@ATSF13172 жыл бұрын
@@nessriverrailroad1299 would certainly be good to know as I'm currently in the planning stage for a new layout. Due to the limited space, I plan on having a 2 track helix going down to staging.

Question (random) what is the turning radius of the helix going to the 2nd level (I apologize if you've gone over this before) and also, what is the measurements of that section of that turn around. Kinda like at the far of the yard at the other end of the layout. You're layout since I've found this channel has been a huge inspiration for something I'm tinkering around with. I have a room in my home I'm designating as my N Scale train room. Cheers 🤙 (and thanks in advance)
@pieroluciano32722 жыл бұрын
Great video! If running steam trains up that grade is still on the back of your mind, I'd bite the bullet and just re-do that grade as its still in its 'under construction' state, you'll thank me me later! Cheers! 😎👍
@nessriverrailroad12992 жыл бұрын
I don’t really have the space in that spot to open up the radius enough to suit them. This is all bonus space compared to when I first started this layout in the old room so the steam locos still have the original area to run in.
@bartholomewsorrentino90132 жыл бұрын
I once worked for a railroad where the tower operator forgot that certain large diesels were not allowed up a branch line because the curves were too small for them. A large diesel was sent up that branch and got stuck, and had to be rescued. Management was not happy.
@nessriverrailroad12992 жыл бұрын
Not a good day for him 😳
@TheLocutus702 жыл бұрын
I wonder how well that would work in HO. I really don't want to build a helix.
@nessriverrailroad12992 жыл бұрын
I’m guessing it would require a lot of space. When planning my layout all I knew for sure was that I didn’t want a helix. I’m lucky that I have the space in n scale, I could have fitted in a lot more industries in the space that I’ve used.

If you plan it right you can always arrange for the steam excursion train to go down the new extension. By the way, how is the dust level in the room being that it is in the barn? You often mention dirty track. Maybe an Ionizer in the room would reduce the dust particles?
@nessriverrailroad12992 жыл бұрын
If I keep the layout room door shut the dust is pretty good, not really more than a normal room. The problem I had this time is that once I got the new spline in I had to sand it to get it smooth for the roadbed. I had a vacuum going and a fan to move dust out the door but I still had a decent amount to clean up.
