IF Roanoke decides to do this, this is the next locomotive that should be restored

But 1218 might be expensive to restore so people far and wide from Roanoke should help pay millions of dollars for restoration bills.

There’s just something very iconic about the Norfolk and Western Railroad’s hooter chime whistle especially the one used by 1218 as well as the the Y class 2-8-8-2 mallet locomotives most famously the Y6b Class

I rode on the Chicago - Ft. Wayne trip and appreciate your efforts here that brought back a pleasant memory. Thanks.

Imagine if Norfolk & Western Class A 1218 was donated to the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America in Silvis Illinois to be restored just like Union Pacific Challenger 3985, that would be awesome.

I really hope someday 1218's missing parts can be refabricated so she can run again. I saw her in person at the VMT this summer, and she was beautiful, but smaller than I thought she would be, although still massive.

Even without the missing parts, the parts can be rebuilt from scratch with blueprints.

Imagine busting your ass in a mine all day long and hearing THAT whistle at the end of the day knowing it's time to get on home.
