Thank you so much for this inspiration. I don't have an oil filter wrench and I'm not sure one would have fit in the tight space on my tractor. I spent over an hour trying various means, only getting more frustrated with each failed attempt. I used your idea of putting a long screw through the filter, grabbing it with a wrench, then using a second wrench for torque. Worked way better than expected! My frustrated heart thanks you!

You are most welcome, I just finished the job and because I had no rope I ended up using my tow rope, its a flat orange belt, similar to a cars safety belt. I wound it around a 17 spanner starting on the open end and ending up with the tow rope loop near the ring on the spanner. I then used a vice grip to clamp the belt over the bottom flat side of the spanner. It worked really well and the spanner stuck out quite a long way below the engine allowing me to be able to use the leverage of the vise grip nicely. Thanks so much for your help the job is done and I can go to work tomorrow morning.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions. I didn't use the rope/wire method. I used an old bicycle inner tube with the wrench, its more flexible, I just looped it round the filter and the hole through the wrench and turned, Bicycle tubes have good grip and it gets progressively tighter and tighter. Managed to remove the filter without much fuss. Once again thank u very much for your videos, I can always find something at home to imrpovise. And I raised my car by driving up a kerb too to change the oil. :) 感谢您的指教

looks good on a bench, but how do you get the robe/strap around the filter when its on the vehicle when there no space and even if you could get into there no space to get the lever either from above or below the engine. Let's see you remove the filter from the sump. And get it back on again.
@GeniusAsian3 жыл бұрын
watch the video: you form the double loops first (make a knot), this does not have any limit because you are doing this outside the car. Then you put down the double loops on the filter. The wrench handle does not occupy much space, most car from above or below the engine would have some space otherwise the commercial filter wrench can not be applied either. If you want to use the old fashioned screw driver to remove filter, here is my video to show you how to do it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4G8pXx5ntSne8U

Very nice ideas. The rope does work well. We see the the same knot used for boating, horses, and even halling pipe. So the knot has been tried and tested :) . Sometimes when the oil filter is oily or dirty it slips too much. I put a few rubberbands on the filter and it stops it from sliping. Then either using hands I can get them off or using a rope/rubber belt can get them off. Also an old bike intertube should work very well. Sometimes I have to use a piece of rubber so the oil filter wrench can get enough grip on the filter (when I have an oil filter wrench handy). Once again great video. Keep up the nice work. Have a great day :)

My filter was so stuck that i tried several methods, and here's what I eventually did: Drill a small hole in the lowest point to drain, and another hole in the tip of the filter to let the air in so it drains faster. Once it's drained enough, figure out the best angle to jam a screwdriver into it, and drill the entry hole (I did it roughly half way along the filter). Ram or hammer a thick screwdriver into it (right through if you can). Twist. The amount of effort is much less than you think it will be, once you've got the torque of the screwdriver acting on it. Messy but it worked. Happy twisting :]
