This is phenomenal!! Mr. Arcara contributed a great deal to us in the subfan community. I also remember being shocked at seeing the clean R62A cars on the 1 in 1987. I was 19, so not old enough to remember the pre-graffiti era. I had seen R44/46s, but I'd never seen clean, air conditioned equipment on the IRT.

This is fantastic. I love all the history Mr. Arcara gave while narrating this. I also love the fact that all these clubs and so forth were sponsoring these trips. Priceless stuff.

I went to Brooklyn Tech and would take these cars from Navy to Metropolitan on the last day of each school year. I usually stood on end of car platform. I graduated in 1957 but always wondered what happened to the train. Now I know. Keep up the great work!

It is too bad that I was not living near the BMT lines. These are the trains I wish I could have ridden. I was probably twelve or thirteen years-old at that time- Another railroad buff.

OMG, I can't believe I can watch movies of by far the most memorable fan trip of my life, the 1975 D-types-on-the-streets SBK excursion. The movie omits an important but far less interesting subsequent part, a run down 37th Street and McDonald Avenue under the Culver El and into Coney Island Yard, elicitng much gawking from bystanders in that more residential neighborhood. Ironically, that part had been advertised as the main attraction of the trio. The advertised itinerary was a trip to Astoria and back, followed by the McDonald Avenue section. This was intended to throw off freeloading motorcaders. The train didn't actually enter the Army Terminal. The building shown at 1:11:20 is the 2nd Naval Battalion Armory on First Avenue between 52nd Street and 51st Street, which was demolished a few years after this trip.

Here's some trivia for the train buffs and movie buffs....the R10 cars that were painted green (which appear at 1:43:23) were also used in the movie "The House On Carroll Street" a film set in post WWII New York...the film starred Kelly McGillis,Jeff Daniels,Jessica Tandy and Mandy Patinkin....and was partially filmed at 22ndAve/Bay Parkway (Culver Line)

Great stuff. Thank you! That very last shot you ended on...Astor Place in 1987...I was a student at NYU at that time and was in that station many times. I was living in Elmhurst and would take the 7 to Grand Central and then the 6 to Astor Place and walk to Washington Square. Thank you for these wonderful videos.

A REALLY GREAT VIDEO , ONE MINOR CORRECTION . AT 41:20 YOU SAID YOU THINK THAT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT WAS A REFUSE CAR, IT WAS NOT, THAT WAS WHAT WAS CALLED THE SIGNAL DOLLY. IT WAS USED TO MAKE DILVERYS TO THE SIGNAL TOWERS FOR THE SIGNAL MAINTAINER eg LUBE OIL , BATTERIES, PARTS , ETC . THE REFUSE TRAIN USED APP. 3 R.R. HOPPER CARS PULLED & PUSHED BY APP.6 MOTOR CARS. 3 IN FRONT & 3 IN THE REAR...........

all of these subway lines would help fix the current subway demand lol. I never understood why they would remove them. just downgrade the number of trains in use, until the demand increases
