Glad to see footwells and straight seats being discussed. There is an obsession with privacy but when it comes to sleeping a tiny narrow footwell usually means a big fare and no sleep. I’d trade privacy for foot space and a good sleep rather than not being able to move my feet/risk getting cramp every time.

Thank you for calling out the narrow seats, particularly on Turkish. We flew from DFW to Istanbul last Spring on a 787 and I honestly felt like I was being squished the entire time. I will admit, I'm not exactly a petite person (former Rugby player) but still... Service was absolutely stellar but still...I know, first world problem :) Best wishes to you and Fiona for a happy, healthy and prosperous 2025!

Completely agree, some of these business class seats might look nice but are not suitable for very tall and slightly wider people. I am 6'3" and typically what happens in these narrow BC seats that my shoulder or arm accidentally hits some button or remote control turning something on/off . Also having shoe size 13, makes it difficult for me to sleep as I am unable to move my feet around in some of these tiny foot wells. Yes, I know, first world problems, and its still better then economy, but I wish more BC seats were designed with taller people in mind.

Sam really liked this video review of all these various business classes and I’ve had the pleasure of sitting in business class on quite a few of the air carriers you mentioned. I have flown on Qatar the most in their business class mainly from DFW to Doha and a couple trips Doha to Bangkok and Doha to Miami. Have always thoroughly enjoyed their customer service and the privacy and comfort the Q-suite offers although sometimes they keep the cabin temperature too warm for my liking but that’s my personal preference. My second most favorite has been ANA’s The Room! You are absolutely correct about how wide that seat is and I loved that. Combined with their excellent customer service I thought it was an outstanding experience flying from Haneda to SFO and look forward to flying with them again. I did also fly Japan airlines but only was in Premium Economy which I thought was very comfortable but we’re talking business class so moving on…. Flew on a Turkish 787 from Istanbul to SFO direct and you were right! Those seats are NARROW. I’m 6ft tall but only 185lbs so not a huge guy but it was hard to get comfortable in that narrow seat but I did appreciate their customer service. The headset they provided was very tight and put a lot of pressure on my head so wasn’t a fan. I did however fly business class from Houston to Istanbul on a 777 and they had that 2-3-2 configuration and like you said I did sleep very well although I did have an unfair advantage as I was on the bulkhead with no one next to me and business class was pretty empty For me the worst has been any US domestic carrier. They still do not understand how to provide a top notch international business class product and the only one that remotely tries is United with their Polaris but they are waaay overcharging for that product compared to any international carrier. Based off this video and your recent video with your girlfriend Fiona to Oman I’d like to try Oman airlines and Air France so I look forward to that one day. One that was not mentioned here but I had the pleasure to fly business class was Finnair DFW to Helsinki. It’s a usual 1-2-1 in business so was comfortable sitting up and the service was excellent but laying flat was not very comfortable and they did not offer a mattress pad similar to what many other carriers offer so the bed was quite firm for me. Thanks for another great video Sam!

You said “weird” about the SQ seat, I just flew it again yesterday from JFK-FRA. The angle and the flip seat are both awful and not competitive at all. They also use this on the SIN-JFK non-stop, been on that too- so bad! I give up, will use others that are better - EVA, Ethiad, Emirates, etc. and more extras, better food, etc.too!

I tried the Japan Airlines A350-1000 business class product last year on the DFW-HND route, it was a fabulous experience. The suite, food service, and beverages were great. Particularly I like their carefully designed schedules, you depart DFW at noon, and arrive in Haneda in the early afternoon, with two meals and an eight hour sleep.

Agree BA old business class seats are the worst. If you fly them, though, the window seats give a lot of privacy. If you can't get the window seats, the next best, surprisingly, is the middle seat in the 2-3-2 configuration. I wish I had known that before I booked my seats. Trying to sleep in the aisle seats was impossible.

I have flow in business class on a few US domestics flights (Northwest before merging with Delta, Delta, and American airlines). but the absolute best flight I ever had was in March 1993 when I had 4 seats (middle row seats) to myself on a Continental Airlines flight from Houston to Los Angeles (that plane was a stop over from Boston). I was able to create my own first/business class flight that included a dinner meal (US domestic flights offered them on domestic coach fare flights in the mid 1990s). This was on the best airplane every made an flow, the legendary L1011 (I was in the 3 to last middle row on that flight). Having 3 seats to myself on Southwest comes a very distant 2nd on a 737 come (not really hard to get). I do like flying business class since that is usually on sale for just about every airlines when comparing to their coach fare prices with all the add on extras. Some day I will try the middle eastern airline carriers ( which I am looking forward to but I don't believe it will ever beat my L1011 flight - but hopefully those middle eastern carriers will except my challenge).

The best business class long haul that I’ve used in recent years has been A.F. They are excellent in all departments. There may well be slightly better options out there but for me they score highly on all counts and that includes value for money. The lounge (not actually theirs) at my departure point is not very good but that’s no big deal because I never have much time to fill in anyway and I certainly don’t need food before a business class flight on A.F. 😊

This airline connects many destinations worldwide, yet it’s rarely featured on such reviews. Many/most of these business class pods have large protrusions where the footwells of pods behind encroach on the pods in front. This is fine if the seat in the pod in front is along the the aisle; however, if the seat is against the window and in lie-flat position, it is almost impossible to get out to use the toilet. Imagine getting out of your bed with a wall alongside you from your head to below your knees. I specifically avoid window seats in business class for this reason (I have never found this an issue in first class because the pods are quite different). I totally agree that Turkish business class is miserable and even worse with windowside seats. The ONLY semi-comfortable seats are the first row where the footwells are wide and deep.

I don’t actually mind the Air NZ seats - I was on the A side though. I found them private enough and slept well. My only gripe is that if you extend the IFE screen, you can’t roll over because it has no height adjust. Narrow seats are the bane of my existence - my best sleep has probably been on those old Turkish 777 2-3-2 seats. However, also lack of storage has been a pain on my most recent flights - a lot of recent flights have had nowhere to put stuff close to you.

I agree with you regarding Air NZ and have vowed never to fly their herringbone product again. There’s zero storage space but more importantly zero privacy from your seat neighbour when in the upright position. I recently flew from AKL-HKG and my seat neighbors compromised of a group of 3 colleagues who were intent on drinking the plane dry and talking as loudly as possible with no thought about how they were affecting others.Obviously it’s the luck of the draw as to who your fellow passengers are but on Air NZ you are very close to each other. Fortunately 2 hours into the flight I was able to move to the row on the other side. That said the cabin crew handled the situation extremely professionally and were outstanding. And to be fair Air NZ are installing a new business class product into their 787’s and I think the first one is ready soon.

I'm a big fan of the Apex window seat, so private when travelling alone but also good if you are a couple.

UA business class is not bad at all. Beddings are extremely soft and comfortable. I fly United Airlines all the time and I always sleep like a baby, snuggled underneath the cozy quilt. Give it a try Sam, you will be pleased!

hello sam. I agree about the emirates 777-ER (with the 3 middle seats), but what about A380 (1-2-1) with the lounge 👍

Tha worst Buisiness class seat I use was the outdated BA club world seats, They are upgrading to the new suits but it is taking longer for this upgrade. We will be traveling to Tokyo fro CDG in October 2025 and realy looking forward at trying there Business seats.

I like the business class seats on Turkish Airlines on the 787 and the 359 and those seats don’t feel too narrow for me

Air Koryo doesn't have business class because there is no class distinction in Peoples Republic. There is also no functional business in Peoples Republic for that matter.

That is RAM (Royal Air Maroc) 787-8 J and a private B747-400 upper deck J seat :)
