Inside The $3 Billion New Terminal of Abu Dhabi Airport

Abu Dhabi Airport Terminal A has opened. I visited the brand new terminal that completely changed the travel experience.
Covering 742,000 square meters, it is one of the largest airport terminals in the world. The $3 billion building, which is triple the size of the old terminal, is set to double the current airport's capacity and manage up to 45 million passengers per year. It's capable of handling 79 planes at once and 11,000 passengers per hour.
Stands at the center of the new terminal at Abu Dhabi airport is Sana Al‐Nour, a unique structure and the largest public artwork in the Middle East. The departure area features 12 check-in rows with self check-in counter. There are dedicated check-in areas for Etihad Business and First Class passengers.
At the airside, I visited the new Etihad Airways First Class and Business Class lounge in Terminal A. The impressive new lounge spans three floors of Terminal A’s. Check out all the lounge features in my video. Etihad’s First Class lounge features restaurant-style dining and private rooms.
Abu Dhabi International Airport is being renamed as Zayed International Airport, with the official new name to take effect from February 9.

I've flown with Etihadairways a few times and their services have always been exceptional. The one thing I never liked was Abu Dhabi Airport, as it was congested and filled with passengers, making it difficult to find personal space. However that perspective completely changed when I stepped into the newly constructed Terminal A a few days ago. I must say, it's absolutely amazing - vast in size, yet it feels like a VIP lounge accessible to all passengers. This airport has indeed set a new standard in airport excellence, offering travelers a seamless, comfortable, and technologically advanced experience. Great work and many congratulations.

Can't agree more. The legroom the food quality the service the amenities the entertainment system. and price extremely competitive. I flew from Kul to Rome for less than $600. Emirates is another 1 of my fav.

True, the older terminal was funny, but a bit too small. I don't fly often but transferred in the new Terminal A in the very first days! just 2 months ago now. Only complains so far are that it's a bit cold, also the last boarding back to Europe was a bit weird with a staff member continually calling the passengers by "boarding zone", which could be indicated on a display, instead of a loud, struggling employee, or have 4 distinct rows in front of the gate, and opening them one after the other. I always fly with Etihad when I have the choice, and was very happy this time again, I just hoped I could fly on their A350's (at some point we were supposed to have a A350 for one leg, but it reverted back to a 100% 787's travel)...

I was there recently. It's a stunning airport. Very spacious and getting through from landing to arrivals was a breeze. Much as I love the old terminals (for nostalgic reasons) this new airport is a huge improvement.
