3:45 - Dillon: Why? Why are the innocent punished? Why the sacrifice? Why the pain? There aren't any promises. Nothing certain. Only that some get called, some get saved. She won't ever know the hardship and grief for those of us left behind. We commit these bodies to the void with a glad heart. For within each seed, there is a promise of a flower, and within each death, no matter how small, there's always a new life. A new beginning. Amen.

I think what I liked about this film was the core idea. A band of rapists, murderers and child-molesters all in a deep-space prison, being thrown into a position where they're given a choice, die in pity and despair, or die saving human civilization, the very civilization that incarcerated them in the first place. And the only person that sways them in the end is Ripley, who, much like the prisoners no longer fights for any personal gain, but out of a sense of devotion to life itself. I think that's what makes this film so powerful for me. It's a story about finding a will to act with heroism and courage, even in the absence of any fathomable reward. I mean think about it, the sadism and violence behind the crimes that landed these prisoners on Fiorina are worthy of the Alien itself. The fact they fought to the death implies these men changed, and in their final moments - became heroes.

@@justsomeguywithagoatee8337 I love the performances from the main cast in this: Ripley, Dillon, Clemens, Morse and Bishop II. People just don't get this movie....if they haven't seen the Assembly Cut, I can understand why they might not still like it. Fincher himself needs to grow up and OWN this film, because it is actually much better than most than most think. I would love for him to bury the hatchet with Fox and do a Directors Cut, or maybe his Work Print of the film. How many years has that dude been whining about this, almost 30? Time to move on. Also, you quoted probably my favorite speech in this movie, followed closely by Clemen's "confession" to Ripley.
@TAGMedia79 жыл бұрын
David Fincher should be proud of this film. Despite everything it had going against it: studio interference, an incomplete script, and the fact it was his first foray into movie directing, the man stuck by and fought for his vision of what he thought Alien 3 should be, right down to the end of production. The cast is chocked full of show-stealers (Charles S. Dutton steals every damn scene he's in), the cinematography was bold and dynamic, the set direction was nothing short of awe-inspiring and the story had its heart in the right place. This film is a flawed classic (the Assembly Cut doubly so) and has simply gotten better with age. Hats off to everyone involved!

David Fincher lacked humility or maybe he was naive at that time. Hollywood producers always keep most of the control in their productions. Besides unlike James Cameron, David was a rookie film director and of course that the studio were not going to give him enough freedom.

Nitpicking is what it is. I like all 3 Alien movies(i WILL NOT treat this 4th bastard child as a Alien movie,i refuse) each has it`s style and touches upon different themes. Alien is about having nowhere to run and claustrophobic dream of LSD addict :) Aliens is action packed, but it also is about monsters coming no matter what you do, or who you have on your side- as basic fear as it gets, as we all once feared monster we were powerless against. You may or may not agree with me, but i think 3rd movie is something like Gothic horror meets Sci- Fi. Inside of prison colony always reminded me of Frankenstein Monster, and it is also a bit of a homage to first movie- they have no means of fighting back and welcome back to close quater combat :) Just ask people, usually crowd splits when they talk about these movies. I even once read comment of the guy who hates every Alien movie beside first one, calling it masterpiece, and anything later a "cheapen, wtared down shit". His taste i guess And on the side note- am i only one who get shivers down his spine during 4:27 - 4:45?

People just don’t like it because it killed their favorite characters and they think it’s too dark and depressing. Boo hoo. It’s a horror film. I like the replies here. I felt I was alone. Alien 3 is beautiful, stunning and my personal perfect end to the franchise. It’s my favourite of the series. Ripley’s isolation comes full circle, alone again faced with her greatest nemesis. Aliens is great but as some say, appeals more to those who are maybe less intellectual lol, The modern day kids who love running around with guns. I don’t even favour Aliens that much these days. It’s Alien and Alien 3 which I love. I can’t even think of that horrible idea of making an Alien 5 that totally disregards Alien 3. Very disrespectful. All these spin offs that try to damage the lore. Alien 3 is a true sequel to Alien, with the gothic mystery. I Iove the directors cut, although i wish he’d left in the chest burst at the end. The fall into the furnace is too short compared to the theatrical version; and the baby queen emerging with ripley slightly brings a tear to my eye.
