N54 Engine Harness Conversion! 335i Wagon Build Pt. 9

Today, we're going to be installing an engine harness on my N54 motor, and getting it ready to swap into my E91 wagon! We replaced the oil filter stand gaskets, HPFP seal, and all the drive pulleys and tensioner! Preventative maintenance to make sure this engine runs tip top when we get it running.

Great job Chris. You tackled almost every common n54 issue. You should consider changing the back turbo intake plastic hose. It's a big pain in the backside changing this intake while the engine is in the car. And they do crack over time!. Maybe buy second-hand silicone intakes. Theres a aftermarket little plate that goes on the crankbolt i think for the n54 thats supposed to stop the belt from being sucked in

yeah fcp euro sells the guard to stop the belt for the front main seal

So if I’m swapping a 128 to a n54 I need a n54 wire harness? How do I code new motor? Also doing manual swap???

Can you possibly provide more detail on what harness you purchased and what the differences were/are? I'm currently preparing for this swap myself.

You want the harness of your engine to match the same year as your chassis. Hope that makes sense, good luck!

@@TheBimmerBarn that's what I assumed, I suppose my question is more about the 06 chassis, as yours and my wagon are both 06s but they didn't offer the n54 in 2006 model year. Will the 07 harness work?

You make great videos man help me a lot with my 335i 2007 and I wanted to know if you could do a video on oil cooling from 2007 that didn’t have one to a 2010 housing that does

Yeah its an easy retrofit! You just need the oem filter housing, and then those lines and the cooler itself. Someone probably has the part numbers or a kit online. But you will have to remove your front bumper/radiator support to install it! Check my last video on this build where I added that cooler to my 325xi wagon. Good luck!

No, I'm not super concerned with them. The factory hoses are good enough for what we aim to do hopefully 😊

Electric greenworks pressure washer, dry, then quick rinse with brake cleaner and it usually looks good as new!

Was there an e90 n54 in 2006? Thought it was 2007+

Correct, I meant to say 2007 harness. The e90 chassis harness was the same between 06-07

@@TheBimmerBarn I'm still a bit lost, would it be an 07 lci harness? I dont remember the pre lci plugs on the n54 harness.

@@edwinmorales9970 it's a 2007 harness for my N54, and it lines up perfect to my 2006 chassis harness. In 2008 they changed the harness, and then in 2010 again I believe for the LCI cars

DME, engine harness, CAS, and Key all from the donor car! Easiest way to go

This one isn't leaking! But I may end up pulling the oil pan off for other reasons
