Literally just did all this to my buddy's 07 335. Yes, rear inlet, huge pain in the ass. I ended up lowering the subframe with the engine in it on a jack cuz I don't have a hoist. Needed to undo the steering column to rack bolt to get it low enough to fit the new bastard in. I too decided to pry the stupid unreachable bracket in the back. He went with the VRSF catted DPs cuz Cobb can't mask O2 codes anymore. THOSE were a bitch. Had him get new v band clamps from VRSF for the turbos since the rear turbo one was stripped. Turns out new v band clamps were worthless, not the same as OEM but said they were for N54. Poorly made, wouldn't go all the way around enough to start threading the bolt. Used a tap to rethread the OEM clamp and used a new bolt and thank god that worked. Also did a VRSF 5" stepped FMIC. I'm ashamed to say he went with a fleabay chargepipe. it was so fleabay it had ports for the stock DVs and a BOV port. Made no sense. Of course we were going BOV. Had to by table leg caps to plug the DV ports on that chargepipe. Oh yea, the little machine screws for the Tmap weren't long enough to thread either (LOL!) Luckily I have like 10 floyd rose guitars and parts galore and it turns out that the screws for the locking nuts on the floyd guitars were the perfect size to bolt down the Tmap sensor. I'm not even going to get into the rusted to shit cats to exhaust knurled flange bolts......Angle grinder, sawzall, air chisel... repeat

Loving your videos! I’m running an n54 135i, but mine is RHD so I have the added bonus of steering on the hot side of the engine (made downpipe install a lot of fun…). I’ve dropped the subframe multiple times recently, and solo. I’ve been using the central jack point on the subframe to hold everything in place, removing the subframe bolts, and putting the two long bolts from the centre of the subframe into the two front holes, then slowly lowering the subframe onto them. This has saved me from “oh shit” moments where jacking it back up the holes aren’t aligned. When i jack it back up i put two new long bolts in the centre holes, then put the front and rear bolts in. I don’t have an engine support so i made do with what i have :)
@tony.nextlevelrides Жыл бұрын
I want to pick up a RHD one here and can only imagine how much a pain the downpipes would be to do! that's a really good tip! had I done it that way, I could get the subframe on the front dowels MUCH easier. it was a bit of a pain but worked ok!
@clueby4 Жыл бұрын
@@tony.nextlevelrides RHd is sooo much pain! RE: subframe bolts, i had to re-align mine using a big ass screw driver in the dowels to get the bolts back in the first time. My new method is so much more stress free! 😂 I’m glad it might help in future!

PS from experience when you’re putting on the charge pipe, there is a bracket on the right side driver side that needs to be grounded down or it will eventually cut a hole in the charge pipe . Found out the hard way . With a nasty boost leak . So I went the new VVT large pipe route and all the other pipping . And intercooler - which is huge
@tony.nextlevelrides11 ай бұрын
do you mean the bracket that holds the "J-Pipe" to the fan shroud? we normally trim that down or clip it off so it doesn't run or cause issue, gives a little more clearance as well. otherwise I do a full 360 look-around to make sure nothing is rubbing, My OCD wouldn't allow any less!

I've also done ALL of this about 5 years ago now....but the inlets have been sitting in a box undone for that 5 years! I was terrified to cut the rear inlet and get shavings in the turbo. I told myself that I'd do it in the future when the oil pan gasket needed to be replaced. They're still in the box! The hardest part of everything for me was the V clamp on the 2nd DP to turbo....I needed MULTIPLE breaks and a nap before I got it on correctly and tightened!!! I prefer MHD to the JB4 setups....if you're using either your winning though! Edit: the valves...I think they were probably cleaned, but maybe NOT wlanut blasted. That looked suspiciously like the work done with the zip tie and brake clean method.
@tony.nextlevelrides11 ай бұрын
the inlets are very daunting, but, if you follow our steps it's much easier. just go slow. the downpipes suck, there's no ncie way about it. if you're RWD it's much easier, if AWD you need to move the passenger side of the steering rack. then it's easy and you'll have room. just tighten both from the bottom and make use of longer extensions. good eye, the valves were "carbon treated", basically they spray a chemical on them and try to brush them off. that's it. now that I have a walnut blaster, they'll get done PROPERLY!
@ferrynpalmer387511 ай бұрын
@tony.nextlevelrides ....years ago when I did all my work I watched a video of someone lubing up that rear inlet and fighting it in place. After all this time on MHD stage 2+ and the Xhp transmission tune I'm still satisfied with the power. Held onto the inlets all this time just in case I wanted the power bump! 2009 E93 here, so RWD and that 2nd DP still SUCKED!! It was really the clamp....getting it to seat, and then trying to tighten it from the top...then it'd slip out of place and repeat!! A 2nd person would've been sweet! This summer it's due for a walnut blast, transmission and diff service...along with the annual oiling of all the convertible top hinges! I HATE the car and LOVE it at the same time if you know what I mean. It'll probably be with me forever, I sold it and bought it back already!! Lol

I was wondering if you guys chose that intercooler in particular for any specific reason at all?. My real question though is about a strange problem I've been having. My car surges at times' It will feel like I'm pushing the throttle a little bit every half a second unless I give it more throttle or a bit less. It's strange in that I have been working on making this car next to perfect as much as I can but now this anomaly is going on and I don't even have any codes to check or figure thing with. It's frustrating.
