@Hard4Games I found a NUS unit of a 64DD. It Comes With A Doshin The Giant Demo Disk From spaceworld 1999. Also,its build date is 1998-06-13.

I also found a Satellaview prototype. It's date is markedon a tape/📼. The tapes title said SATELLAVIEW 1992-03-15 PROTOTYPE.

There’s a reason why they don’t “pop up” for so many years after it was created. It’s illegal for them to let a prototype into the public within a curtain number of years.

spark tbh I’m unsure on that one. I think it’s just illegal bc there technically stolen property but after so many years it doesn’t matter anymore. Or if the company liquidates their assets or something like that. It’s honestly a gray area bc the prototypes where really meant for public eyes or to be removed from the company’s buildings.

That save screen, the one where you save to the system. That's a theme from Super Mario Maker, if I remember right its when you're saving, deleting, etc, courses. Never knew it was a nod to Mario Artist on 64DD of all things

This sounds pretty exciting even with it just being a Beta of Mario Artist. It may not be incredibly likely, but there is still always a chance for any lost media to drop. I've lived through so much recovered "lost" footage from television shows. Someday, Earthbound 64 could drop.

Woah, this is awesome! You may have seen it already, but I believe someone found the original image used to create Mario's 'metallic' texture in SM64. Pretty interesting!

The disc drive texture looks like that because it was common to mirror textures in order to save texture memory. The seam wouldn't have been visible if you were viewing it on a standard definition television.

From what I learned, Kazumi Totaka was brought in between the prototype and final product. He made the title and gallery music. American composers did the rest which was unusual

It's crazy how so much of this stuff suddenly popped up after MetalJesus found that American DD unit. The prototype stuff I'd like to see surface from Nintendo likely is not going to ever been seen by the public, that being things from the NES and early SNES development period. I just have a feeling that not a whole lot of it was preserved from their original storage mediums to find their way onto the company's internal server at some point. That Donkey Kong music game that was supposed to be an early Famicom title is probably long gone.

Great Job. 👍🏻 I’m not sure if your aware of this but in Twycross, England at Rare’s Studio, there is a Blue Development Disk Drive with a Blue Disk inside. I’m fairly sure that there would be something on it but I’m not sure how it would be obtained.

I keep getting the feeling if the N64DD had its way, we would have had more creative ideas on making our own content. Seeing Mario Artist and Doshin, and even the F-Zero expansion kit, Mario Maker would have been something they would have thought of doing as well. For example, even if it were just the NES and SNES, and then doing some Mario 64 styled fourth theme ha! It would have been more primitive for sure, but the DD with its whole RADNET and read write capabilities, they clearly wanted something futuristic in how game consoles could allow us to make our own content shared in a way!
