Ultra 64 would be so a great name, always fun to see your prototype carts.

The Arcade version had 4 secret stages, the retail version for N64 only had 2, how many does the prototype have? I have always believed that there has to be some of the two missing in the retail version code and that with game enhancer they can be accessed.
@GermanGarageGames3 жыл бұрын
I have no idea what you are talking about. I have to google the secret stages.

It was confirmed back in the late 90s that the bonus stages were not added to the N64 ROM Cartridge version. Iirc the arcade version used a custom PC parts set up and a HDD for storage. Combine that with both Midway and Atari Games arcade divisions not actually handling the reprogrammed conversion because it was said to have been done by EuroCom the same dev studio charged with handling War Gods and Mortal Kombat 4 and it's easy to see that they just sort of rushed the home versions of all those 1997 and 1998 Midway Cartridges. Also Midway wanted to have a PlayStation version even though that game system couldn't really handle Mace level of 3d graphics and you are left with a game company that didn't bother to make the best possible home version for the only home game system that could actually do it justice and that since they relied so much on using a HDD on the arcade that they had their own difficulty using the ROM Cartridge... Something that could have been better and solved if they had bothered to handle the home versions or if they had not rushed the home versions for the N64... Further evidence of a rush job is that the 1997 Midway releases have weak stereo... Believe it or not the N64 and Cartridge format could have allowed for a much closer to the arcade home version with all the stages and additional refinements like making a revised version of Mace... but like I said they didn't put the effort so as amazing as we foud the home versions back then and to this day it's a shame really that they didn't have the hardcore coding focus on the N64 which could have generated a ton of buzz as Midway could have rivaled Namco and Sega's arcade to home version reputation.

Did you try with a ntsc video cable ? Ntsc signal is darker than PAL, that's why PAL cables have resistors inside. Try playing a pal game (brighter) with ntsc cable (no resistor) and it will appear too bright. My guess is you experienced the opposite. (ntsc signal on resistor cable)

Thanks for your comment. I will check out the cable. I did play it on a NTSC N64. So this is more than likely the dark problem.

@@GermanGarageGames oh ok, thought you could simply tweak the brightness in your scaler or capture card
