I personally think there is a huge market if someone makes a n64 style game. Would be awesome if you made an entire game and tutorials. Your channel could blow up. This scene is amazing and I would love to learn this style

I really like how this nails the N64 style while still improving the graphics for modern hardware. Also the 50s dinner in a traditional japanese building is an amazing idea.

Had I known no context, I would honestly assume this was some OoT romhack or a rare N64 game. But knowing it makes this even better.

That is awesome. It is really gratifying to know I’m getting close to the right look.

This looks great. N64 games have a peculiar ambience that I love about them that had been lost by more powerful consoles. The flatter lighting mixed with the use of fog and anti aliasing is always telling of the N64, but I think it goes beyond that though; I think the polygon budget means that designers have to pick memorable shapes and the end result is actually improved by the restrictions. I'm definitely in for N64 style games.

This looks perfect (just like the lighting/texture work done in an N64!). Fantastic work! I've actually been trying to emulate this overall material/lighting setup myself but keep hitting dead ends - by any chance can you share where you learned how to do this? Your other videos gave a brief description and I'd love to learn more. Thanks and keep up the great work! :)

Would love to experience this type of stuff in VR. Being low res like this would probably mean optimization for a high frame rate too. Especially when aiming for 120fps per screen and higher.

@TrialbyFire2 жыл бұрын
Hey, bud! Any updates on how you achieved this or at least putting up some project files on your Patreon? I would absolutely support you on there if that was available. I use UE4 myself so opening that up even without a tutorial I could probably figure it out. It's a great way for us to learn also. It doesn't need to have anything from Legend64 included, literally just the shader or whatever you are using to accomplish this with a small demo scene. Thank you in advance!

Been saying this for years, I hope someone starts making new 64 games one day. I'd love to see someone do turok 4 on the 64, for example. I'll literally purchase a cartridge full price if it's for the original console.

@legend 64 hay dude, what is this workflow like with creating modular kits (say dungeon kits etc?) I'm referring to how lighting feels in enclosed spaces etc. I do alot of realistic sci fi stuff and seeing this really makes me want to spend a few months doing this :) awesome stuff
@stinkyballs9885 Жыл бұрын
Please cover how you did this in a future video or tell us how the look is achieved
would you be willing to talk about how you've done your shaders? the only workaround i've found is to just plug all the textures into emissive and bypass the ue4 shader entirely, other sources mention needing to alter ue4's source files to really make significant changes to how the shader calculates light information. any help in this area would be really appreciated!

I'm doing something similar on oculus quest, though I built the entire lighting system with vertex lighting so I can have fake shadows
@OpenMawProductions3 жыл бұрын
Were you using vertex lighting here or just the standard Unreal lighting?

Looks nice, but really makes for a very boring video with just a completely silent day/night cycle. It would have been a lot better if you could have added in some music and some ambient sounds. Also the stars in the night sky should be moving as well. 😅

How did you manage to shut off all the annoying lighting features that make it hard to get the old-school look? I've been wanting to do stuff with UE4 but it feels like fighting tooth and nail to make it look like an old renderer.
@ThePCxbox3 жыл бұрын
It would be cool if this guy made a tutorial for the lights but you could start by changing your materials to "unlit" and then look up algorithms for simple lighting. I too hate how most engines these days force lighting and other features to be complex and modern
