There’s something mysterious and beautiful about the forest area that the precipice doesn’t have. The forest area feels like you’ve entered into a dream, the cliff over looking the lake feels like Dracula’s castle. I suppose if that’s the vibe you’re going for then you nailed it. But I was so sold on the forest area.

These videos make me wanna make my own game in this style. And I look forward to every new release and I get snacks ready for each release but 4 months!?! I’m dying for a new dev log 😭 I can’t wait and I know it’ll be worth it!

I think you have a massive hit on your hands. I don’t know your financial situation, but when this game releases i get the feeling you’ll get life changing money from it.

The lighting looks great, but if 8:44 is your blueprint an improvement would be to just use a switch on int node. It'll save you time and improve performance and probably be easier to read.

Hey! I don't really expect you to answer me but I wanted to try and contact you. I've been following your devlogs for a while now, and you really inspired me. I'm a software engineer with an interest in music composition and I'd like to compose video game music on the side of my day-to-day job. I don't pretend to be even "good" at music composition, but I'd like to have fun and try to come up with tunes. So, what I'd like to ask for is, would it bother you if I created musics inspired by your game, and furthermore, when sharing those online, if I reuse some visuals from your videos (logos, game visuals, etc.). Of course, if you give me the permission, I would link everything back to your channel, your patreon and your ko-fi page all while taking care to not misrepresent myself as an official composer for the game or being affiliated in any way to the project. Thanks! And I wish you the best with Legend64 :D

A few ideas for the procedural hallways. When spawning a new chunk, you can make a list of possible room shapes for the new chunk by looking at the adjacent chunks, and disallow any shape that would connect with an existing chunk. Also rather than camera distance, you can track each chunk's distance from the player by starting with the chunk the player is in, then stepping through each connected chunk recursively and assigning it a number equal to the current step. If the step number is too high you can delete the chunk because it's far away from the player, and any chunks that you don't traverse when you finish this check can also be deleted because they're unreachable.

I’m just going to give it to you straight, 'Legend64' is not a very good name. It’s much too basic, and doesn’t say anything about the game besides the '64' part, which tells that the game is N64 inspired. But other than that, it’s not very good. But just so you know, I LOVE THIS ENTIRE PROJECT! It’s awesome, I love how everything looks, and it is obvious you know what you are doing in terms of visuals, keep it up!

I know im a year late to this, but for performance, if you haven't done it then you can restrict the rain particles to only be around the player/camera as you move. Only time it doesnt exactly work is when its from a distance, but even then you can have it as an animated texture till you reach the zone But that's likely overkill, id say most people would have no issues with performance

did you remove earlier videos? I could have sworn there was more to do with character design and stuff.

Seeing this again, the only concern I would have is the character jumping past the transition box before landing to trigger it so they leave bounds.
@mega_venikАй бұрын
Great work definitely! But does your game really need this life simulation? How much time would a player spend on this level?
@Neelesh144Ай бұрын
i love the way you set up the lighting i mean the god rays, the flicker effect of lanterns those are so subtle but so good... you didn't use unreal engine default lighting like point lights or anything and they look clearly like they made from textures... like you made a black and white texture and did something in unreal engine to make the texture emissive and create a transparency using alpha (this is just my guess you might use unreal engine lights to create the effect i don't know haha) but that using textures as lights and stuff is so cool... i want to learn this tricks like using a huge atlas for textures and how a minuscle 64x64 textures covering details of vast world and how can someone hand-drawn or create these type of textures and how can someone create a fake lighting out of textures like these are so subtle but very powerful effects that can literally improve game's performance alot and give your game a unique art style... so anyone who saw this comment... guys i want to learn this tricks so if you guys know where can i learn this stuff or whom should i follow to learn this type of art style so can you guys help me in the right direction? i am so interested in learning these cool and effective tricks which can help in giving an art style for my game too...so i wish you guys could help me by guiding me in a right path... thank you :)

As a new-ish blender user, I am learning a lot from the modeling/animation side of these, especially chasing that N64/90s 3D aesthetic currently Also very excited to see this game come to fruition, looks like fun!

This looks good bro. It's not "dark" looking like some original N64 games. I didn't have an N64 growing up but some games looked dark to me like that Donkey Kong game. The textures look good and sharp and not super "blurry" like other games too. I can see the "blurriness" on the trees but everything else looks great. 👍
