For me those PSone screens are still ideal screens to use, the image quality (if you don't mind it being a bit of a mirror) improves a lot if the mesh is soaked off the LCD; very crisp image quality in contrast to stock. There appears to be a bit of interference on the screen, the video cable needs to be shielded to the screen to eliminate that.

KYLE REES it does with a custom boot disc. So in short. We'd need to either copy the original ROM and modify to support CD reading and then recreate a one off console that is slim, with a screen, and not much thicker than a SNES cartridge. Could be done to a similar style of a larger game boy.. Failing that a switch-esque style handheld, with a door at the back and cartridge at the top.. Or a non doored (auto loading disc element) CD drive and cartridge slot, with a screen and buttons on the top corners and front.

If you guys are looking for the Z button/trigger, pause @13:10. You’ll notice that there is a little recessed area on the left shoulder button. That I believe is the Z button/trigger. Very intuitive design.
@Sauraen7 жыл бұрын
I think they just scrapped the L button. Shoulda made it like L1 and L2.
@obvious_humor7 жыл бұрын
Sauraen It needs to be a rear trigger for best results. They should have put the Z button where the left index finger rests. I hate all the portable N64 designs that just sacrifice the L button, they're lazy and counterintuitive for all the "hold Z" type of games. Hold an N64 controller and pretend you're trying to Talon Trot in Banjo-Kazooie with the L button. It'll feel weird.
@zacharygoterch1687 жыл бұрын
OmenBoy The screw is located just a little bit to the left when looking at it from behind. You get a better look at the design from the front @13:14. Look at the left shoulder button and compare it to the right one. You notice that the top of the left one has a square flat surface whereas the right one is completely rounded. Also, you’ll notice the part of the left button closest to the cartridge slot slopes inward slightly whereas the part of the right button closest to the cartridge slot stops at a flat angle. Maybe it’s just a variance in how the buttons were designed, but imo there are two presses underneath the left button. Pressing the slope of the left button will act as an “L” button press, while pressing the top of the left button will act as a “Z” button press. Then again, I could just be looking at the system wrong, but it can’t be coincidence that the left shoulder is shaped a little differently from the right shoulder.
@dadangsudadang59637 жыл бұрын
Sauraen the ique setup for the L and Z is perfect. Even the hori mini pad 64 did this before.
@kmilli03137 жыл бұрын
exactly. i was thinking it would feel pretty normal to have the z back where your left index finger can reach since thats the finger that used it on the controller anyways. just recess it in a little or let it stick out and rest your finger on it.

Well if he puts the batteries from the top on the sides it doesn't block the fan!
@ProDigit807 жыл бұрын
You can curve the one end of the fan dispenser, so more air will come towards the beginning, less towards the end. You can use smoke to see how the fan dispenser is dispensing the airflow. Curve bladed design is less noisy. Larger fan blowing air from the back into the case at a 90 degrees angle with the board, rotating at a lower RPM might be better, than a small fan blowing high RPM in parallel with the board. You can also coat the case with aluminum, (metal-plastic alloy) allowing the heat to dissipate through the casing. It'll also make the device much more durable. Even metallic paint allows for a better heat dissipation than just regular paint or plastic. Volume and brightness would probably be better as an analog rotary dial on the edges. Drivers can be upgraded for more bass output. The device could actually contain a passive bass membrane to make one feel the sound better, as well as sound audibly better, like this one: goo.gl/K2Fykv Hope the wires will not be in the way for taking in or out cartridges.

I'm sympathetic about having just wanted to get this finally done, but it seems like there were a few compromises that make it a Pyrrhic victory: - Going back to the crazy N64 analog stick after the modern analog sticks were working - No L button (which really was used in a few games!) - No ports for additional controllers, nor the controller-expansion ports - Having a built-in save-game memory module was such a neat idea - sad to see it didn't make the final version (although many games get by with cartridge save alone) - Maybe AV out / DC in should be available Of course I don't seriously think people would want to play 4-player 007 on a tiny screen, but having ports for additional controllers (maybe through a breakout cable which could include a controller 1 override) would create compatibility for arbitrary add-ons - not just 1-4 memory blobs, but also stuff like Rumble Paks. Yes, this stuff would take an insane amount of time to do, but think of the watch time revenue at stake! ;-p

The only thing shitty about the N64 stick is that it wears down over time. I'm gonna guess that's what happened to yours and you don't realise.

Don't get me wrong, the final product is _amazing_ and I love it, but what's up with the 3d printed parts' layer lines not being smoothed out? I also don't get the blue plastic on the sides. Some case design critique: I would have made the case more ergonomic, switched the d-pad and joystick placement to be closer to the location of the joystick on an original N64 controller, and moved the speakers out from under the user's palms. I would have also rounded more of the corners and edges on the device. This is just personal preference, but I would have used a replacement N64 joystick; one of the aftermarket parts that is a modern joystick (that is less prone to breaking than an actual N64 joystick) that has been made to look like an original.

Best thing about that portable 64 is that u can play for a very long time if you buy extra 18650 batteries which imo was the smartest thing to do by allowing the person access to the batteries ..

Nigerian Prince They don't make the Shield anymore and it only works with Nvidia Cards. I think combining the Steam controller or XB1 controller with a screen and a Steam Link into a portable form factor is still a cool idea.

I once built a backpack where I had a Genesis that was wired to a battery pack of a bunch of 9 volts. Had it ran up to an old camera I had that had av inputs for the screen. And of course not having any kind of av hook up for my Genesis, I gutted an old vcr and used the coaxal input and the av output to tv as a converter set up. In short I ended up with a back pack that had a cartridge slot and a screen and then 2 controllers running out the bottom. Open it up and it was just a massive ball of wires and batteries. Probably not the safest thing, but when I was a kid I was willing to do anything to play Sonic the hedgehog in school.

I love this, it's amazing. Question though: how can I throw items in Mario Kart 64 without a Z-Button? Or is the L-button both? In that case, how can I do that without switching the UI? I'm just curious because I didn't see a Z-button and it stresses me for some reason.

one thing one could have done was use a replacement part of a "N64 stick fix" - basically there is third parties making a fully nintendo 64 original controller compatible renewed stick parts using a smaller, modern style stick that does not wear down like the original N64 stick, and has less of a travel. I have one of these parts replacing utterly worn down stick in one of my N64 controllers and it jumped ahead my very great condition nintendo original stick in gameplay feel.

You should’ve used a GameCube analog stick! The N64 analog sticks are basically just plastic rubbing on plastic, so they wear down really easily, The GameCube analog stick lasts for much longer and is a lot more comfortable to use
