I put 4 Laird ferrite chokes under the base of the antenna and it cleared up alot of background noise.

I have this exact antenna. N9TAX roll up slim jim with 16ft cord. Its 40ft up in a tree. Works great. 1st I used 50Ft of RG-58 (even though I didn't need that much length) and my reception was clear to repeaters (10 miles away with full quieting). This despite the massive cable loss RG-58 causes. I changed out to LMR-400 cable and still have the same reach and quieting. Thats how good this antenna is.
