I'm happy I found your video. I have worked at Lakehurst 28 years, and fortunate enough to be inside Hangar One nearly every day. You get an A+ for this trip - Bravo! Today, Lakehurst is Aircraft Carrier Support - I make the high pressure steam that goes to F-35s and F-18s when the launch gear is operated. We have 2 full mock-up steam catapult launch platforms. The reason two, their are two carrier deck types in operation in the entire Fleet. Using the steam I make (compressed into huge receiving tanks) are then sent to a special piston attached to what's called the shuttle (the hook that pulls the jet) and the jet is yanked from: 0 to 220mph in 2.2 seconds, pulling 9Gs. What a cool job I have, the $100 million dollar jets are barely 100ft from me, and when it revs its engines, your entire body vibrates. Thought I'd share. you did a Great job with this video.

Very good job Nick. My father was a witness to the disaster when he was just a kid, (he died in 2012) and was practically under it when it exploded. He really had to run. He was there because his father was a Marine Captain who was stationed at the Naval Air base in Lakehurst then, and was actively involved with the Hindenburg. I never knew the Hindenburg site was a tourist attraction. I lived in NJ when I was around his age. I sure would have loved to go there.

What a wonderful job giving a tour of Lakehurst Naval Air Station! I hope to visit there someday. You really gave some very detailed descriptions and pictures of the hangar. I particularly liked the shots on the field where you show the crash site in relation to where Hangar #1 is. Loved your pitch for New Jersey! I grew up in Irvington and have deep roots there! I love NJ and loved growing up there. Thanks again for a great job!

Great documentary, Nick. Perhaps you could do a follow up at the Naval Air Station in Cape May, New Jersey. There is a wealth of history at this location. Along with a great dinner, The Flight Deck.

I was in the navy in ‘73 . I was in training for aviation boatswains mate . Hanger one was where my classes were held . There is a 1 / 3 size carrier built inside the hanger . That is where we learned how to operate catapults and arresting gear . The equipment did not actually work but we had a hands on experience with the equipment . I was there from March to June of ‘73 then was assigned to the USS Midway which was stationed at Hunters Point in San Francisco . I then sailed to Yokosuka Japan where we were home ported .

Great job nick only 1 correction Lakehurst naval base is in Lakehurst twp not Manchester twp. Manchester does not have a post office Lakehurst does. Lakehurst is bordered on the east end west route 70 from the circle 1 mile and ending in whiting im born and raised there i went to whiting elementary ridgeway elementary first class of Manchester middle school and Manchester high school

Young Nick. Thanks for the fine effort. When I visit NJ I'll make a point of visiting the Lakehurst site. One word of constructive criticism for you. In the first moments of the video "Hindenburg" is misspelled with 2 erroneous large font letters. That's bad form that I suggest you correct in future projects. People might get the wrong idea about your attention to detail. I'm speaking of colleges, scholarship applications and potential employers. Improve on that and you may be on your way to fame.
