Old glory isn't a flagpole, it's actually the staff of the Congress. Long ago it was an actual weapon used against unruly assembly members, but these days it mostly functions as a talking stick on the rare occasion they actually use it. Also, weapons with randoms women's names like Annabelle and Esther are references to the US military tradition of giving your weapon a woman's name (or in more recent times, a man's if you're gay or a female.) The tradition goes back further than our country's history into obscurity and is most prevalent in the Marines and army

I think he meant that originaly this weapon was much weaker and was called a flagpole back when Ulysses was supposed to be a companion in the base game but sadly that idea was cut. However if this idea had made it into the game the Lonesome Road dlc probobly wouldn't exist. Interesting fact though.

The holorifle is technically a heavily modified grenade rifle. That ‘useless’ durability upgrade, when applied at max durability, actually makes it so much more durable it’s actually Unbreakable The Q-35 also has a detail you didn’t mention. It consumes less ammo per shot than the standard plasma rifle, meaning it’s lower base damage is also offset by its ammo efficiency

Great video btw
@MintyLime7036 ай бұрын
People have been saying this well before New Vegas came out, let alone today. They were even arguing the same thing comparing Fallout 3 to the original games claiming that the graphics had too much focus put on them. Graphical fidelity isn't mutually exclusive with other qualities found in a game. Especially with AAA games considering larger budgets and huge dev teams. Don't forget that these games were considered good looking at one point. Off the top of my head the Battlefield games are another one that people used to say they focused too much on the graphics. That was back when we thought games couldn't look much better than BF4; it was new and so took a lot of player focus. Today you can easily tell it came out in 2013 as it doesn't look as good as we all thought and is pretty easy to run on a modern PC. It's the gameplay that players have stuck around for and it's unhindered by all those who wanted the cutting edge in graphics back in 2013. For some reason people act like AAA dev teams don't have specialized workers organized into departments and are instead this equally skilled monolithic group that can only work on one thing at a time. It doesn't help that so many AAA games today release in a poor state but still usually look good. It has a lot more to do with the business side of things and stuff like micro transactions than it does resource management. That really only comes into play with indie games, or at least it should.
@CliffSedge-nu5fv5 ай бұрын
When I first started playing video games, graphics didn't exist. I laugh at all the whiny children today talking about "bad graphics" from any games made after 1990. 39:00 Or maybe the Red Ryder BB gun is a reference to the actual Red Ryder Carbine BB gun, since the Red Ryder BB gun came out almost 50years before A Christmas Story was released. And because basically every kid from the 1940s to 2000s will never forget seeing that long thin box in wrapping paper under the Christmas tree. As a kid most of my best friends were girls and they also got a Red Ryder, no doll houses for those badass little girls, 20+ years later most of them are either Soldiers or Marines now and still my closest friends. There's a reason why A Christmas Story used the Red Ryder, I don't know anyone who didn't get a Red Ryder BB gun and yes, everyone who had a Red Ryder at least once got hit with a ricocheting BB, usually to the face or neck but the Red Ryder shot BB's at a very low velocity so it wasn't dangerous is just stung. Hell, we used run around the woods playing war shooting each other but we always wore safety glasses.

The Rat Slayer is quite good due to its availability. You can acquire it for free at the start of the game if you know it exists. Early on, you are likely going to have a Varmint Rifle and maybe a Cowboy Repeater as the rifles available to you. The Rat Slayer not only provides a significant upgrade to the standard Varmint Rifle, but it's also scoped and suppressed, which is uncommon among rifles in the game in general. This allows you to acquire an excellent early to mid game Sneak weapon, which is when a long range suppressed weapon is extremely useful in compensating for lower Sneak and no Sneak perks. Others have mentioned the much better options in the base game for a gun that could be used to reference Bonnie and Clyde, instead of the 9mm SMG. I want to point out further that the M3 Grease Gun that the 9mm SMG is based on should actually fire .45 ACP, like the M1 Thompson, but they didn't add that ammunition until Honest Hearts when they added a gun based on the M1 Thompson. The Vicky and Vance gun is just a mess of a reference. The Q35 Modulator is most useful early, because it only consumes 1 MF cell per shot instead of the 2 a standard Plasma Rifle consumes. MF cells are rather hard to accumulate early on and Laser Rifles don't pack enough punch without perks and stats to boost them.

Regarding 32:29, I think it's safe to say you don't understand the character of Ulysses. The point of his character is that he wants to bring America, or at least his idea of what America is, back to life, but sees the Old World (a term he uses to bash groups like the NCR, Legion and Mr. House to indicate how they're stuck in their ways and can't see the present and future for what they are, similar to Old World Blues) as a limitation to moving forward and creating newer, better societies and wants to eradicate the factions to free the wasteland from the perverted romanticized nostalgia for good. Old Glory is the physical form of that necessity, much like his duster with the US flag on the back, and as others in the comment section have pointed out, it was originally an actual weapon that got used in court, though nowadays it is no more than a decorative piece.

On the point of the "Big Boomer", in the US the National Firearms Act of 1934 considers all firearms under 16 inches a pistol. If the "Big Boomer" is under 16 inches it would therefore be a pistol. As well, the word "Boomer" might be related to "boom stick" which is common slang for a shotgun, particularly a side-by-side double barrel. Also, a quick side note, the 357 in 357 Magnum is always pronounced "three fifty-seven" when referring to the bullet caliber. Really good video, really enjoyed it.
@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz Жыл бұрын
Fun fact, no it doesn't. Little known and admittedly sort of useless knowledge the 16" length wasn't done until the 1968 GCA, the NFA uses an 18" requirement on both shotguns and rifles. The 16" came about after the US Govt surplussed a bunch of M1 Carbines which, by either sheer happenstance or a giga-chad at Winchester, have a barrel length of 17-3/4". The US Govt just sold thousands of NFA items like they were normal rifles, and to save face and not attempt to mass arrest a bunch of people they amended the definition of rifle include a 16" barrel when the GCA was passed. Why 16"? Because after 1934 and prior to 1968 a lot of .22 rifles were granted a sort of 'sporting exception' and allowed to have 16" barrels but not qualify as SBRs. Does that really matter? Not really, because the GCA still says 16" so it's 16", but it does help if you needed any more reason to think the government is run by idiots who cant even tyranny properly.

The Ratslayer may be a reference to the Crosman Ratcatcher series of bolt-action air rifles, which all come by default dressed in black polymer and scopes. Being air rifles, they're also much quieter than explosive firearms. It's a common first "gun" in the UK, since firearms are much more heavily restricted, and presumably other areas with restrictive gun laws.
