You're right-it was life-changing. The people, the companies, the experiences... it was all amazing. It gave me a new respect for so many companies and all the hard work and passion that goes into so many products. I had so much fun hanging out with you, Heather, Mark W, Mark B, and Aaron! So many fun moments that I will remember forever! It was so cool being able to hang out with you in person. I have a massive amount of respect for you as a creator and as a human. Absolutely love this Tom. The best part is not only discovering your gifts, but finding other people, good people, fun people, joyful people who share those gifts and seek to lift each other up, and support each other rather than tear each other down. Family is found…transcending the limits of what you knew. We are all family in the same space. When you discover a group of people who just want to belong to something special… it’s awesome! You never really know how much the world’s negativity can affect you until find a group a people who only want your company, fellowship, and to find happiness as a group. It takes a village…and it’s life-changing - awesome when we find “our” village!!!

I remember my first NAB. Three days of ecstasy. I was practically skipping around the floor - dragging a growing bag of heavy brochures . Later NABs I paced myself a bit more. But my partner was with me for #3 and she was in love with all the free swag. KZbin was still in its infancy for my last one; so no familiar faces (except, strangely, meeting Sinbad). But I still always loved meeting the actual people from the companies whose products I use. I could talk with them in a common language and they lent me their ears to my issues. It felt cathartic. I can still remember Cathy talking to someone about going to Vegas with me. Another woman said, “Are you going because you’re worried about your husband in Vegas unsupervised? “ “No”, she replied, “I’m worried about him going to NAB unsupervised with our corporate credit card.” 🤨

Based on the practices of language documentation and recording speakers it has been proven to revitalize speaker populations (i.e. Hawaiian, Hebrew and possibly Klingon). I’m not a linguist nor educated in audio and whatnot, just a trained teacher. Thanks to you and your videos I am confident in my language endeavours and hopeful we can revitalize our language. The best part of NAB for 2024 for me this year was watching you experience it. You know exactly what you experienced and the euphoria of the living organism you were a part of and melted into. I have to tell you there will be more to the story you haven't experienced yet. How to they say it "and now here's the rest f the story". It's a ride, I know you will take that ride with both eyes wide open. It takes a special person, personality, intelligence level, and imagination to take in what you were able to absorb. Some simply take it for granted, you are definitely not one of those people. It's a Disney experience in a whole different way.. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

I’ve often gotten teary eyed in front of my audience because you get emotional knowing you’re living your dream and it’s due to the people who watch you and get to know you. Who you grow to love and appreciate because without these awesome people in the comments we wouldn’t be able not only get to know such awesome from all around the world but we wouldn’t be able to live a dream like this. Being a KZbinr isn’t easy and it’s much harder than people realize and it’s a lot of long nights and living or dying by an algorithm. But the people we get know and who enjoy our content are worth it. As former cancer survivor years ago I had nothing and no direction in my life, but this platform and the amazing people make it worth and I can’t speak for Tom but it gives you a sense of purpose and meaning that make it worth getting up every day and chug along to make another video. Well said Tom and I’m a big fan. Keep up the great work.

It can feel embarrassing to choke up, but at the same time, I think it's so important to embrace and appreciate those human moments. This stuff is magical and it's so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day that you forget. Congrats on being a survivor and working to find your context ❤️

Tom: you made me feel like I was there at NAB with you. I could feel your excitement, which made me feel excited. Great video. Thanks for making my day better. 😎

Oh man, this with the NAB is so similar to the vibes of Frankfurt Musik Messe (European equivalent to the NAMM in the US) which I've worked at for more than 10 years, demoing guitars and hanging out with guitar makers small and big, industry people in instrument amplification, musician colleagues and visitors, it's like a big family on holiday haha.. I didn't really realise the depth of it until it was over, and after the pandemic came, it wasn't the same thing. But _you_ my good sire, you've brought tears to my eyes long before you started getting deeply emotional at the end of the video.. I got emotional by just seeing that pure joy and energy pouring out of every word and every move you and Heather made during the filming. I was so happy for you guys being happy, simple as that. It then finally struck me, why I always felt your whole online presence radiated some extra depth in anything you'd talk about. And it's the same thing that made you the Teacher of the year earlier in your career - you're deeply honest and you care. The care - is the word. You care that the information is useful, you care if it looks good, you care for every little aspect of what you do and your standards are pretty pretty high. At the same time you're as modest and genuine as you can ever be. Let it all sink in, you're worth it, let it inspire you even more, and a big, big shoutout and an online hug to Heather who is your rock, being so helpful and supportive!! Cheers!

This was AMAZING. Yup! met rockstars, movie stars etc, and never star struck. Yet fixing and meeting the lead engineer of Qualcomm? seen his patent design of all the electronics we use today? I was stoked to talk to him. meeting the chemical engineer who designed all the vinyl wraps we use today, another engineer who was one of the many designers of the base use today for our microchips/motherboards. Getting to talk one on one, and seeing their passion and human side? beyond amazing. A COMMUNITY.

It’s so cool that B&H helped make that happen for you. Well deserved! You provide such great, human and technical advice and perspectives. You give a lot, and I’m glad to know that the pendulum swung your way to return just a fraction of what you give.

What an amazing video! Tom your emotions and sincerity regarding human connection couldn't be more evident. I rarely comment on videos but had to say something after listening and watching this video. I was fortunate enough to notice one of your videos a few months ago and have been watching regularly since then. In fact, I recently purchased the Rodecaster Duo and it was all because of your recommendation. Keep up the great work buddy!

Glad to see NAB is more than just a trade show. I too grew up wanting to go, and this past one looked like the one to be at. I hope that sense of enthusiasm for the trade, and the community that comes with it continues to grow in the way that you’ve experienced it. Absolutely love to hear your story. All your experiences compound, your context is vast, and I’ve always admired how well rounded you are. Cry your heart out, and share it. It’s something I’ve always aspired to have ever since DATA. I wish you well on your continued journey, keep on keeping on.

I found my crowd too (ham radio nerds). To the general public they're niche and a bit eccentric, but nothing drives home the community like face-to-face interaction, which we experience at hamfest conventions. This video resonates so much.
