Let me tell you the story of my mom (age 83). In 2018 my dad passed away and my mom never really got over it. We saw her going backwards and about a year ago mild dementia was established. About half a year ago I read about glynac and the cognitive improvement in elderly people (among all other benefits) that was associated with it. I decided to wait no longer and put her on glynac straight away. Now 6 month later she seems so much better and the dementia seems to be stopped in it's tracks. So much even that het caregiver noticed it without knowing about the glynac. They do know by now.... Another remarkable thing is that she is now once again contacting and visiting old friends, where in the last 2 years she hardly came outside the house. 1200 mg nac and 3 grams glycine per day has done wonders. Make of this story whatever you want, but my mom asking for it when she's running out of glycine or nac says it all for me...

Great video Dr. Stanfield. I would like to briefly share my personal experience with NAC. I've been a long term sufferer of OCD and off/on depression. I've tried many things but just discovered NAC this year for the first time. NAC 600 mg twice a day with selenium & molybdenum took me out of a 2 month depression and has worked wonders on my OCD. My focus and productivity at work has improved immensely as well. Energy has also improved. I'm 33 years old and this this the only medication /supplement I'm taking right now. If NAC improves mental health, than an improvement in health span and longevity would naturally follow suit. Amazing compound, for me at least.

What about agents such as curcumin that improve the ratio of gsh to gssg which is a direct measure of oxidative stress. Curcumin upregulates the enzyme that generates gsh. My guess is that curcumin with a small amount of added selenium would be very effective. NAC and Glycine would contribute if you are low on the gsh building blocks.

Reduced Glutathione works well and is probably much safer and more effective than NAC since NAC is capable of producing side effects. In one study, participants were either given 250 mg or 1,000 mg of Reduced Glutathione per day for a duration of 6 months. Glutathione levels went up significantly in erythrocytes, plasma, lymphocytes and buccal cells after 1 month of daily supplementation. After 6 months, the low dose group (250 mg/day) found an elevation in Glutathione levels of 17% in the blood and 29% in erythrocytes, whereas in the high dose group (1,000 mg/day) these changes were significantly higher at 30-35% in erythrocytes, lymphocytes and plasma.

I’m a 55-year-old male and I’ve been taking Glycine and NAC for a while, 2 grams of each per day for 1.5 years. After reading the papers of the human trial where they used a higher dose, I thought I would try 6g each per day. I took this for a week but had to dial it down again because of how it affected my mental state. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly how it made me feel, but I had way more anxiety and a generally super weird feeling overall. It was not a pleasant feeling and I wasn’t the most pleasant to be with at the same time. I will be more careful going forward and see if one has to build up for higher doses because I wouldn’t recommend how I felt to anybody. My normal state is very balanced and I don’t take any mind or mood-altering drugs, legal or illegal.

@@4444trs I have friends w/ Lyme, and the inter-venous (IV) Glutathione (GSH) treatment has been a crucial part of their recovery. The GSH, in addition to being a strong anti-oxidant, provokes a detox, helping the body to flush out some of the sequestered toxins. GSH may even be a mild binder, escorting those toxins out - I need to check on that. You are probably doing the "Patricia Kane" Protocol (aka PK Protocol) which has been in use for years. Go to a Lyme Literate clinic and listen to the stories of Lyme patients who've had significant improvement on this protocol. Brad Stanfield's concern was with LIPOSOMAL GSH, which he claims the body can not regulate since the GSH is in a phospholipid bilayer (the liposome) which "hides" the GSH from the bodies regulating mechanisms. Your IV GSH is NOT HIDDEN, so the body can regulate and shuttle it around to where it is needed. Finally, a Lyme patient's body is under so much oxidative stress from the pathogens and toxins released by the pathogens, that GSH levels measured in the blood (by blood test) are abysmally low. Many Lyme patients get a Vitamin C IV (50,000 mg) followed by a GSH IV (3000 mg) and do that 3x per week for a month or two, and they have enormous improvement, proving the IV's are safe and effective, even done 3x/week (quite frequently). Lyme patients usually are affected by mold (from water-damaged buildings) and EMFs from cell phones/WiFi. To heal, one must find a mold-free lodging with no WiFi away from cell-phone towers. Hope you see this info and it aids you on your recovery from Lyme.

There have been updated studies showing reduced glutathione does absorb and increase glutathione levels over time recently. In part possibly I believe by simply breaking down the protein and sending it throughout body so it can synthesize its own with building blocks. There is a sublingual glutathione low dose that will absorb directly under tongue and can be adjusted as needed. Also has couple ingredients involved in the recycling of l glutathione. Astaxanthin is one of the best antioxidants and never concerts to an oxidant form. It can help maintain even other antioxidants such as glutathione.

Using precursors is a great way to increase glutathione levels. However, anything you can do to reduce toxic load will increase glutathione levels. For example, using an infrared sauna, taking a supplement called R-Lipoic Acid, and for those who can't tolerate NAC, you can try SAMe. For those looking for a non-supplemental solution, 500 mL of alcohol-free beer per day raises RBC glutathione 29%! There are many other examples of foods that increase glutathione. For example, 83 g/d of almonds increases glutathione in smokers by 16% and decreases their DNA damage by 29%.

I took NAC & NAD when I had Covid. However, long term use has given me pause as there are conflicting studies on NAC and cancer. A lung cancer study in Sweden was halted because tumors increased dramatically in participants. Apparently it limited the expression of a tumor suppressor gene that is activated by DNA damage which NAC prevents. Then there are other studies that say it can prevent cancer by eliminating the proteins need for the cancer to survive.

Brad, thanks For the video. I was planning to take serine, But recently read concerning things about its impact on colon cancer. My genome sequencing puts me in the 100th risk percentile For this kind of cancer and I already had three Adenomas. If you search the research you will find Various studies talking about serine deprivation for treating colon cancer. At the same time, it seems glycine is important in cancer metabolism but that Glycine supplementation reduces inflammation and therefore perhaps the risk that you get cancer. I currently take glycine and collagen since the evidence seems overwhelming that unless you already have cancer this is probably good for you. But in my situation I continue to be fearful of serine. I would be very interested in your views as to who can take Serine. Can I? Thanks.

I have completely cessated my liposomal glutathione after your previous video and my re-evaluation of the methodology's potential harms on certain cell lines of my body. What is the thought around SHMT? The first thing that popped up is the awareness that cancer cells over-express SHMT to support their growth cycle. Do we really need to forcibly move the folate cycle? Regardless, the core point of supporting endogenous creation of glutathione so that the cells control their levels is spot on. I also like your thoughts on blocking CD38.

Sulfur is found in two amino acids in food: methionine and cysteine. It’s primarily derived from dietary proteins, such as beef, fish and poultry. However, there are vegetarian sources of sulfur as well, such as cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale, watercress and mustard greens. A number of human and animal studies have found that eating sulfur-rich vegetables may reduce oxidative stress by increasing glutathione levels (3Trusted Source, 4Trusted Source, 5Trusted Source). Allium vegetables, including garlic, shallots and onions, also boost glutathione levels - likely due to their sulfur-containing compounds

I take 80mg NACET aka n acetyl cysteine ethyl ester which is the turbocharged version of NAC I weigh it out in a capsule then I add 500mg standard NAC to it and I take 500mg Glycine along with it. You mentioned liposomal glutathione but I wonder if you’ve heard of the newer form called “S-acetyl-Glutathione” it’s apparently a form that your body can actually use with decent bioavailability but I don’t know since I take the fancy NACET along with my NAC I don’t need it. I have a vial of injectable glutathione dosed that 200mg/ML I rarely ever use it though I give it to my parents sometimes when they’re sick or when I’m sick or something or just not feeling well or going through a stressful period only then I’ll take like a 100mg shot of glutathione but like I said that’s extremely rare. The thing is I’m so confused because apparently if you take too much antioxidants it can reduce your lifespan as well it can have like an opposite effect. I remember you talking about this once I think it was when you were referring to Alpha lipoic acid in a video you mentioned that taking it daily was actually bad for lifespan because we need some level of oxidation. Knowing that makes all of this so difficult how do I know if I’m taking enough or too much?
