To be honest... The best version of all night vigil. No doubt about it. AND ITS A CONCERT!!! Im totally amazed by perfectly balanced choir with such a low basses (yuri vihnyakov), super sweet sopranos and beautiful solo tenor's voice. Extraodrynary!

Absolutely extraordinary. I've listened to many versions of this work, and I have to say I'm quite taken aback by the fact that one of the best versions - and maybe to become my favourite in the future - is a video, sung live, and by a German choir. What quality! What sound! Clarity, emotion... What soloists as well, I was riveted. Bravo, bravi... I can't express it as well as I would like. Quite close to perfection, if that exists.

Rachmaninoff is king. Absolutely love to hear any rendition of his sacred chants. So ethereal and mystical, unlike any other sacred music that exists on earth.

One of the reasons this is so wonderful is that the choir was directed for over a decade by Howard Arman. And they recorded the Vespers together in 2002. Interesting also to note that the concert was given in the Nachtgesang tradition, 4 concerts a year with no entrance charge, in the Peterskirche, Leipzig.

Лучшее исполнение из тех, что есть в ютубе. Потрясающее "piano". Прекрасная работа. И сами хористы получают удовольствие и от произведения и от исполнения. Дирижер великолепно держит хор в единстве. Просто, bravo!!!

Very nice. A little too soft. Not too quiet, but soft. Cloudy, not clear.
@gaborcsalogpianist26673 жыл бұрын
what is not clear?
@maxroomsky2 жыл бұрын
This comes from the attempts to avoid the false pronunciation. Especially to be heard in tenor solos. He is making everything cloudy in order not to make a clear mistake in pronunciation. But it is obvious, that in such a piece with all its meaning and inner liturgical dramaturgy, most probably, only native speakers can be sure of the accents to be in the right place. As we know, nowadays we don't have plenty of time for rehearsals to go so deep. This leads to this compromise - those who are not sure of the pronunciation, do not stress it, do not point it out. Which is actually clever, it is better than if they would have made themselves funny doing the false accents or vowels. This is a very intelligent choir, a pleasure to listen, colleagues!
