A privately owned 2ft.6inch Railway line namely Martin's Light Railway ,
Basically the line branched into two part , on 1899 The first part opened from Aishtola Ghat ( near Ranaghat) to Krishnanagar via Shantipur , the Kalinarayanpur to Shantipur part later converted in BG in 1925 .
The second part was Krishnanagar to Nabadwip Ghat ( I don't know the exact year of it's opening ) . In 1904 those two section amalgamated by East Bengal Railway and formed Aishtola Ghat Shantipur Krishnanagar Nabadwip Ghat section EBR. Later in 1925 , after GC Shantipur to Aishtola Ghat Closed , and the remaining section become operational . In 1948 after Independence , the ER handed over the stretch from EBR . There are 6 stations namely Dignagar , Road Station , Nadia , Mahesganj , Amghata in the entire route . Except Dignagar Mahesganj and Amghata all station closed one by one after becoming very unprofitable . Started with Steam locomotive haul train and gradually after steam era , Rail Bus service started in that route which was operational upto the closure .
In 1978 The section severely affected in flood , but after that again survived and operational .
The section was operational upto 17th January 2010 and presently under Gauge Conversion .
After closure of Steam era in 1984 , the trains into this section operated with Ashok Leyland made ( built in 1967 ) 3CAR Diesel haul Railbus , there are mostly 2 or 3 rail buses works in that sections.
The recent scenario of the Gauge Conversion project is really not good , as in the New alignment the erstwhile Nabadwip Ghat station will never active , after Amghata the track will take a new alignment and will cross the river Bhagirathi ( a bridge is already constructed there in 2017 ) and then the line will be passing through Mahisura towards Nabadwip Dham , and in that portion the land problem is still not solved as there is almost 200 house will be demolished and like almost every projects of bengal the unwillingness of local people stalling down everything , which is also the cause of shutting down of Construction work in the rest of the stretch of this " Special Railway Project " . Sealdah Division will also not agreed to start train services upto Amghata ( which is almost completed in 2016 ) as the section will not earn profit until completion .
Rather it is also raise a question that the section will be gaining profit after completion . Till now Sealdah ( SDAH ) Division runs 2 pair services in the morning shift only which runs mostly vacant . Let's see what happened in the near future.
এই লাইনটি প্রথমে রানাঘাট এর নিকটবর্তী আইসতলা ঘাট থেকে শুরু হতো এবং সেখান থেকে ফুলিয়া হয়ে শান্তিপুর এবং সেখান থেকে ছেড়ে দিগনগর হয়ে নদীয়ার সদর শহর কৃষ্ণনগর ও সেখান থেকে ছেড়ে কৃষ্ণনগর রাষ্ট্রীয় উদ্যান গবেষণা কেন্দ্র হয়ে পৌঁছাত রোড ষ্টেশন ও তারপর চামটা শ্যামপুর আমঘাটা মহেশগঞ্জ গ্রামের মধ্যে হয়ে সোজা নবদ্বীপ ঘাট গিয়ে শেষ হতো । পরবর্তী সময়ে কালিনারায়নপুর শান্তিপুর বড় লাইন নির্মাণের পর ছোট রেলের এই শাখা টি নবদ্বীপ ঘাট থেকে শান্তিপুর পর্যন্ত রেখে দেওয়া হয় ।
