Rafael Nadal vs Andre Agassi, Montreal 2005 Final. At Nadal's first hard court title, Nadal was a human wall against the veteran Agassi, enjoy this amazing performance! (mostly from 4:45 on)

Agassi, on his autobiography Open, describing this match: ''I go to Montreal and scratch and claw my way to the final against a Spanish kid everyone is talking about. Rafael Nadal. I can't beat him. I can't fathom him. I've never seen anyone move like that on a tennis court''.

Agassi spoke the truth about that particular day. I was amazed at more than a few returns from Nadal. He never gives up. He still keeps fighting. It isn't over, until Nadal says it's over.

@@cloudman8911 Djokovic has nothing to do with this particular final. As for my retort; Nadal has "destroyed" Djokovic as well. Your comment doesn't mean anything to this final between Nadal and Agassi.

@@andyroo9381 Djokovic destroyed Nadal many more Times. The ONLY surface that Nadal is better is on clay. As i Said Djokovic Avenged Agassi. This victory meant anything, because Agassi was old and seriously injured in the back.

@@cloudman8911 ''Many more times''... As far as I'm concerned, the Djokovic-Nadal rivalry is a pretty even one: 30-28. This victory meant another M1000 for Rafa.

this is making me so nostalgic... I remember watching this match on my cousins tv in Mexico

Agassi still played some great stuff here, considering he was at the end of his career and the level of Nadal's defence was just something else.

Man this Nadal/Agassi match was the first match I've ever seen Nadal play in. I remember seeing his explosiveness after the coin toss and was like.. "this dude is the real deal" haha

It's like you're watching an old tennis classic and then realizing "oh yeah Nadal is still playing". The guy has crossed more than 1 generation now, truly unbelievable. Even though Agassi was on his way out (ret. 2006) his ATP rank was 5 at this time in 2005.

Yeah, no chance you win against that type of defense if it was clay. He was doing that on hard, so there's no chance to hit through him.

Hence why he didn't lose a clay match that year

Just the movement was pretty increadable - Agassi still had enough off the ground to challenge Nadal - but needed one more weapon to beat him : a decent volley and the instinct on when to use it . that combo could have beaten rafa on this day Increadable match - both gave their all

This was a rough match for me. I remember it well. Huge Agassi fan at the time and I already started loving Nadal at this point. I was so stunned at how he moved on the court against Agassi! And Agassi played incredibly well. ♥️♥️ Both.

Las finales antes no eran al mejor d 5 sets?
@jeremywck87572 жыл бұрын
Best of 5 sets were/are for Grand Slam tournaments only - Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and USOpen. All others were/are best of 3 sets.

@The King's Game Can you tell me why 2005 Montreal, Cincinnati, Indian Wells and Miami Masters final were best of 3 sets, while the remaining 2005 Masters finals like in Monte Carlo, Rome, Hamburg, Paris and Madrid were best of 5 sets? Why were they not kept consistent by the ATP? They could have kept all Masters 1000 finals be played with best of 5 sets that time. What ATP did in 2009 to make all Masters 1000 finals played in best of 3 sets, that was good. But why they followed such inconsistency back in 2005, I don't understand it.

Miami's final was also best of 5 sets back then. Remember the final between Federer & Nadal that year (2005).
