I think that wet weather is following you about and as for bog and mud....padlocked gates as well, right struggle getting over that mind and what happened to 'where there's a path there's a gate'.....No wonder you too several tumbles, it looked a tough walk through all the bracken and had to LOL at the floating head walking through the bracken as well! Cheers Alan

you are correct... tho when i do get a day like you had on lingmoor and armboth i might get naked myself in celebration :D... apparently fat boys had the same problem with that gate but i hadnt seen that video to warn me of it before i went.. thanks for stopping by Alan, tek care lad cheers :)

Really well made and put together Dave and essential detail to give us and idea on what to expect (especially sticking to the ridge beween Haper and Hareshaw). As Sue said we will split the 2 sides to avoid the bog fest and the high fence. So glad to be seeing the back of these featureless Shap fells after these 2 separate walks
@daveostlemountainman5 ай бұрын
i said on most of these walks it would be interesting to walk the shap fells after a heatwave of sorts to see exactly how much they dry up.. there isnt much in terms of features but plenty of deer and some nice views south out to sea and over to the howgills.. but yea a feeling of achievement completing these as i cant imagine too many folk have.. thanks for watching, tek care :)

Another great video. Nice valley is Haweswater. Thanks for doing the outlying fells, your videos are so useful when i plan to do some of those outlyers as well as the 214.

The fat boys on tour videos are great references for the outlying fells.. what i watch before setting off normally... what i like to do different from them is fill in the gaps between the fells so create a different perspective.. thanks, hope the videos help, tek care :)

After watching this film we've decided to split the walk in two and do the first three out and back and the same with the other four, from the same start point. The ground from Hare Shaw to High Naddle looks horrendous and we'd never get over that gate. This is the last Shap walk for us, I'll be glad to see the back of them 😂 and we're doing them on a good weather day. Thanks for the vid. 👍

Great, glad my advice has found someone, I think you might be the first haha.. Yea once the Shap fells are done I think (Probably) the rest of the Outlying fells are quite nice as I found that very much this weekend doing the 'Staveley Group' was very enjoyable.. Take a machete with ya for the bracken is valid extra piece of advice :d.. thanks for watching, tek care :)

If there's a medal for the shap fells I think you've definitely earned it 😀
@daveostlemountainman5 ай бұрын
@@marksalmon6773 tempted to write a book solely on these Fells.. and create a medal yes, good idea haha

There's definitely a market for stuff about these outliers. Up till recently when you started your vids there was only the Fat Boys on Tour who made the look easier than they actually are!
@daveostlemountainman5 ай бұрын
@@susanmarsh1128 yea i think the market will only grow as ever more people complete the base 214.. Fat boys made cracking route information videos, think mine are more filling the details in between fells, but ya right theres not much else... the big youtubers dont bother filming them cos they dont produce the desired views they need.. i think they are pretty easy apart from the shap fells, thats why i think a book on them specifically might be fun :)

Interesting to see these 'obscure' fells and in rather difficult conditions. Very enjoyable. Hope you get some decent weather for the next one - if this summer ever comes.

I think this was the last of the difficult Outlying Fells so glad to get them out of the way from now.. Had a nice walk in Staveley this weekend, very accessible and pleasant for a change haha... thank your for the feedback, tek care :)

Cheers Lee.. some decent spots to pitch a van overnight on these routes, so if ya wanted a bit of privacy and cant be bothered climbing the big fells these would be right up ya street, especially after heavy drinking the night before haha.. Thanks for watching pal, tek care lad :)

Well Dave, just back from Naddle Horseshoe (part 1 Scalebarrow to Hareshore and back). Sooooo glad we decided to split in to two. Scalebarrow to approaching Powleys Hill was really good. Powleys to Hareshaw not so good. We did take your advice with the sweeping ridge approach to Hare Shaw which was much better than ther direct bog fest. Spent quite a while on Hare Shaw having butties and drinks etc . We were slightly more fortunate with the weather than your circuit. Have to say hats off to completing the full round that took some considerable effort over bad terrain. We are saving part 2 for another day, but have discovered a few parking spaces near Naddle Farm that will make it easier

thanks for the update lad, glad to be able to throw out some decent advice for folks.. dont think u can walk through naddle farm at the moment but there is a signposted bypass path.. the only hard part about the next walk is cutting through the bracken between naddle fell 3 to hugh laithes pike,, tek a machete with ya haha :D

I have to go back there as I missed off No.3! Don’t mind at all though as that area is where I fell in love with the Lakes, volunteering for the RSPB.
@daveostlemountainman5 ай бұрын
yea its confusing... there are 2 websites ive found that has that final one labelled as hugh laithes pike.. but i checked on hillbagging uk one when i got home which seems the most comprehensive database and it was indeed naddle forest 3, so had to do some creative editing.. bracken is seriously out of control.. take a machete if ya nip back this summer haha.. tek care lad thanks :)

Ey up Marra, superb. Me and Mossy were close to here on Friday evening / Saturday morning. We did the Swindale round in two and summit camped on Grey Crag. When did you do this, it looks similar weather to what we woke up to on Saturday. Haha Looked tough going at times mate. Loved the footage of Dave's head coming down through the bracken......very funny!

was saturday morning.. i guess yous would have been up there when i pointed at em cos that was like 8 am.. ya probably drove past mine at daves car at the top of swindale on ya way out.. aye the bracken is getting seriously out of control with all the rain i guess.. cheers for watching as always, hope the camp was 'dry' :/

@@daveostlemountainman The Friday night was dry and we had views, think it started raining about 5.30am. We set off walking back about 7am. We were going to straight line it over to the little bridge over Mosedale beck, but with the clag down we decided to retrace our steps off Grey Crag and go via Mosedale Cottage. Was a cracking morning. We got back to the car around 10.30 so would definitely have passed your cars! Haha

Nice one Dave. Just researching this rout for myself. Seems there might be a few names for Naddle Forest 123. I’ve got High Forest, wallow crag and Hughfield Crag . Have you come across these ?
@daveostlemountainman2 ай бұрын
yea i discovered they had names after doing the walk.. high forest and wallow crag are 2.. unsure on 'hughfield crag' as on hillbagging.co.uk its still listed as 'nameless' so maybe its a recent naming..
