I LOVE roses. We have an old one in our garden that has a true sweet but slightly citrusy strong but clean rose smell. Gorgeous. I do love Jo Malone roses.

My favourite Rose fragrance was L'Occitane Quatre Reines, every time I wear it people comment. One man followed me around a shop to ask me what it was because 'I smelled delicious'. It was my signature scent. And they stopped making it! I'm ekeing out the last bottle. I've written to L'Occitane but no joy. I've never found another as beautiful.

love this Nadine! i work at a fragrance house (that handles the agronomy of rose and various other ingredients, as well as synthesis of aroma molecules like aldehydes, musks, etc.) and you are absolutely right about rose that it can take on just about any coloration or texture. its a bit of a "primary color" in fragrance in that a huge amount of even single molecules are described as "rosy". i'm lucky that we have a huge archive of fragrances that i can rummage through- so my best choices are; "Exactly Rose" by florist extraordinaire Eric Buterbaugh and recently retired master perfumer Harry Frémont ... the most icy crystalline rose I've ever come across - it uses Rose centifolia (thats Rose de Grasse, not the honeyed more animalic R. damascena aka Bulgarian variant) along with Cassis, Lime leaves and an isolate found in Jasmine primarily called Hedione HC (hc = high cis isomer) which gives tremendous luminosity.
@charlesborden10276 жыл бұрын
some others - "Sa Majeste la Rose" a classic by Serge Lutens. a green, prickley summertime rose with a gorgeous honeyed nuance with some clovey spices that gives a naturalistuc summertime vibe. Powerful but surprisingly simple and elegant. Another fresh green summertime rose that trades honey for salt (as in seaspray but also clean sweat) is D.S. & Durga's "Rose Atlantic", which always catches me off guard in how sensual it becomes. Finally "Ambre Nuit" by Dior - the higher end line - a boozey, ambery damascena rose so well blended (and unashamedly synthetically enhanced) its a bit impossible to pick out anything other than how effortless, sexy and yes expensive it smells.

I used to get Rose perfume from my Dad every time he bought my sister and I a fragence, my sister got another type, when we were kids... I never liked the Rose sent.. Of course they were not expensive, as we were only girls. But every single time he gifted us for a birthday or Christmas, I got the Rose.. My parents had split up, so my Dad would post it to us.. Anyway, to cut a long story short, it's put me off Rose perfume, as a adult.. But after the way you described these fragences I'm very keen to check some out.. I truly think, you could sell ice to a snowman Nadine 😂 Thank you for your input about these perfumes, Nadine ... xx

Fabulous video. I own and adore Jo Malone’s Red Roses. After hearing you describe the Miller Harris Rose Silence, I would very much like to give it a try. I adore citrus in rose fragrances, and the addition of patchouli sounds fabulous. I work with a lot of essential oils, etc, and have recently been enjoying the combination of cacao absolute and rose. So simplistic, yet absolutely stunning. Now I’m thinking of adding some blood orange, patchouli, and perhaps a bit of vanilla:) Thanks a bunch, m’dear🍃🌸.

A great review. Great descriptions. I know nothing about the alchemy of scents top notes and low notes. I just know what I love and what I don’t like. I was intrigued by your enthusiasm about patchouli because it is one scent that I cannot appreciate. Probably because of its overwhelming use in the 60s cheap scents and in men’s colognes that trigger headaches. That said, I love the review and will check out the lighter powdery rose scents. I love the “gentle flutter of the eyelids” going out to buy some roses for my office today 😍

My desert island perfume would be Portrait of a Lady, the most seductive rose ever; but I also like to spray myself with L'Ombre Dans L'Eau (preferably the EdT) where the rose is counteracted by green notes and blackcurrant, creating a most natural effect, dark but ethereal. If someone now prefers the real Carmen of roses (and they can afford a splurge) I'd say Une Rose by Frederic Malle (rose with truffle undertones). Finally, I have to thank you for your perfume reviews, which are rare in the beauty community!
