Naeglaria | Brain eating disease | What to do? | How to save ourselves?
Naeglaria is a serious and life threatening medical disease which is caused by an Amoeba, which is a parasite. If a person gets infected with Naeglaria, the mortality rate is around 98%.
Early diagnosis the key in survival of infected patients.
The symptoms which the patient presents are as follows:
1. Headache especially frontal headache
2. Nausea
3. Vomiting
4. Change in sense of smell
5. Hallucinations
6. Photophobia
7. Neck stiffness
8. Unconsciousness
9. Seizures
10. Coma
Following precautions need to be taken:
1. Appropriate cleaning of swimming pools
2. Using chlorinated water in swimming pools
3. Regular cleaning of water tanks
4. Using chlorinated water in household water tanks
5. Avoiding swimming in standing stagnant lakes/water in hot climate
