In today's video, I take you on a lovely field trip around the dreaded Naggaroth, the Land of Chill. In the Northern Regions of the "new world" lies that grand empire of Naggaroth, the new home of the Dark Elves after leaving Ulthuan during the Sundering.
Malekith, the Witch King of Naggarond takes up residence in the twisted, dark city-fortresses that dot the north-eastern most region of the blasted, desolate, frigid wastelands of Naggaroth. Six great cities, Naggarond included, make up the entirety of the Dark Elves great empire on land: Ghrond, Karond Kar, Hag Graef, Clar Karond, Har Ganeth. Each one with its own flavor and aspects; each one the home to one of the Dark Elves famed and murderous units.
From Malus Darkblade, the Scion of Hag Graef in the West, to Helebron the Blood Queen of Har Ganeth in the East, there are plenty of special characters and units to mirror the likes of their benevolent cousins- the High Elves of Ulthuan.

I did speak in error here: We still haven't heard much about the Southlands yet, and that might be where the Skaven are really centered as well as possibly revealed in the next few days! I was under the impression that Southlands would be coming with the universal campaign map. Can anyone confirm that it will indeed be at launch?!

You right, there will be 4 continent coming with TW WH2 Southland is one of them. The combined map will NEVER have exclusiv content. It's just an addition. (Except for the campaign and battle feature and balancing). So On the combined map u will get the old world (europe) [TW WH1] southland, naggaroth, ulthland and lustria [TW WH2] So every content u will see it twice, once on a classic grand campaign map and once on the combined campaign map. It was say many time on reddit, thanks for the lore by the way, cheer' !

Arthur Daffos that region with Chaos Dwarfs & Ogre Kindoms is likely going to be a core part of the 3rd game along with the huge Northern Chaos Wastes, I'm very much looking forward to that game, Khemri could come as an earlier dlc campaign pack though with their main antagonist being the Nagash loyalists led by Arkhan

So a bit on Malus Darkblade, the greatest anti-hero quite probably in all of Warhammer Fantasy Lore: Malus Darkblade, also known as En Raksha (The Wight, for his chalk white skin resulting from him not containing his soul) was not the first Dreadlord, he inherited the position and command of the greatest military in Naggaroth after killing his own father and family (save his mother, a witch) and finding redemption with the Witch King himself. This was a long process however. Moreover, after he found his soul (not going to get into that whole thing), because his nemesis, T'zarkan, a greater Demon of Slaanesh was attached to it, he technically took both back into himself, binding him with the demon. He was forced to remain awake indefinitely, lest the demon awaken during his slumber and take control of his body. He drank a magical potion custom made for him daily to ensure he never fell asleep. His pet Cold One, Spite, although smaller than most 'Nauglir', possesses unusual intelligence and stark loyalty to him alone. Ignore everything that has been written about him in 'End Times'.

Thank you! I read all 5 books in his Chronicle by the age of 15. He is my favorite Villain in all of literature. I will share what I saw which forced me to read his books. So really Naggaroth has a Seven Kingdoms of Westeros type vibe, where each city is rule by a singular lord, whilst still paying fealty to the capital. Malekith rules Naggarond, Morathi rules Ghrond, Hellebron rules Har Ganeth, Malus Darkblade rules Hag Graef, and in my opinion, Karond Kar & Clar Karond are ruled by Lokhir Fellheart and Rakarth the Beastlord respectively.

I'd like to point out that Rakarth didn't actually die at Finuval Plains, his horse Bracchus did. Afterwards, he got a Black Dragon that he named after the horse in honor of his steed. Rakarth meets his actual end during the End Times.

+GlamdringandOrcrist so u went into this video thinking just that, but I guess I had some mental confirmation bias or something because when I went back to the books to source it all, they never say that they outright run or rule... For some of them.. Morathi is a given of course, same thing with Hellebrone, but a lot of the others are just associated. Like Malus I thought was the main Dreadlord, but he's not! ItalianSpartacus Yeah, a lot of stuff from the lore that should be what's going on either aren't exactly stated or just aren't developed. Like for instance Aislinn of the High Elves could've been a way bigger character and probably could've had a cool rivalry with Fellheart. Finubar is my biggest gripe though, because I feel like he was kind of shafted. I mean he's the Phoenix King, I understand he's more of a diplomat than a fighter, but he should still be one of Ulthuan's top tier combatants. Alarielle does more in combat than he does, which is just ridiculous. I honestly can't remember any piece of lore stating that Finubar entered into armed conflict, not even during the war that led Tyrion and Teclis to become famous. There's also the fact that every "ruler" of each race has a decent amount of lore behind them, minus the Ogres and Chaos Dwarves, but Finubar has next to none. Wasted opportunity in my opinion, but then again, so was not devoting time to flesh out minor factions like Cathay, Nippon, Ind, & the Hobgoblin Khans.

It always struck me as odd that the dark elves have no ordinary heavy cavalry along the lines of silver helms, or even dragon princes. Cold one knights are cool and all, but they are monstrous cavalry, and the numbness inducing venom they have to smear on themselves pretty much makes them a deal breaker for most who would aspire to them. For a race thats so focused on carnal pleasure, are there seriously no dark elves who are like "yeah I want to fight as heavy cavalry, but also be able to bone witch elves afterwards, I'm getting a horse, and I'ma stick some armor on." Bam! Heavy cav present and evil boner still strong. I would be happy if they pulled a Bretonnia here and just gave us a unit of heavy or medium horse cav at some point. Then maybe make cold one knights a little stronger, and tone the model count down to show how special they are.

I know they were either enslaved or driven to extinction, but are there any hidden enclaves or did they all fall to the worship of chaos? Things like that.

I would say the Lothern Sea-Guard are the High Elf counter-unit to the Dark Elf Corsairs. Also, White Lions of Chrace nicely mirror the Executioners of Har Ganeth, and the most obvious parallel is Phoenix Guard Vs. Black Guard of Naggarond.

Negative my brothaaaa! Corsairs and White lions mirror each other because of their matching cloaks.. the Executioners match the Swordmasters of Hoeth. LSG don't really have a direct DE counter-part. Instead, DE get the lovely bleakswords

i know they said southlands, but i'm not so sure they'll be there on release? i'd be surprised if they did the southlands just for the skaven has they're based out of Skavenblight with cities EVERYWHERE else hah.. so i guess theoretically, they could do anything.

Yeah that is what i always found a bit odd with them adding the Southlands. It would make the map a bit of a weird shape if you only had the second game as there would be a big hole where the Old world and Araby would be. But either way it will be interesting to see what they do.

Knowing CA the D-Bomb wouldnt be too far feched... But if I were them, I wouldnt keep the fourth race hidden too long. If people dont know for sure what they are getting in the game, they wont be easily convinced to pre-ordering. With that in mind, I doubt it will be long for the pre-order race to be revealed...

great vid. it really shatters me that games workshop has abandoned the world they created so beautifully over so long and came up with this age of sigmar stuff... i can understand a rebrand if you're brand is failing, but my understanding is that it was still moving along. I find the simplification of Warhammer Fantasy and 40k to be a bit patronising and the lack of customisation has caused me to leave warhammer. I actually hope they fail which I don't say too much about anything.

It will be part of the Vortex campaign, 100% certain, CA confirmed it. The Southland are the main bastion of Clan Pestilens in the lore since they got kicked out from Lustria by the coming of Sotek.

No, Southlands is where the Skaven will be starting out (Clan Pestilens home) in tww2. If there is any content added with the combined campaign it will be the Lands of the dead joining the Southlands and the badlands from tww2.

I would have thought that the Black Ark Corsairs would be the mirror of the Lothern Sea Guard rather than the White Lions.

the Lothern Sea Guard actually don't have a direct mirror- their mechanics are pretty unique to any army really. The Corsairs and White Lions share the same cloaked infantry special unit with specialized weaponry :)

I meant more of a lore similarity. The Black Ark Corsairs are the best sailors for the Dark Elves, just as the Lothern Sea Guard are the best sailors for the High Elves. As far as what their roles would be TW:W2, all three don't have a gameplay mirror. The Corsairs are like Wardancers, The White Lions are a mid tier AP infantry. The Lothern Sea Guard are a hybrid unit like Free Company Militia.

oh hell yeah we will, i mean that fly over basically went right over it. i assume we'll get that as a place for Teclis either to ally with or outright own from the start. alternatively, i definitely see the citadel of dawn in the southlands being a possibility as well!

Gianni Pinotto technically, yes. The dark elves match almost every unit with one of their own, but there aren't as many units hailing from specific regions like the high elves. For instance, the Shadow Warriors hail from Nagarythe in the High Elf army. Their counterpart- Dark Elf Shades- are from all over the realm.

The Shades are originally the rulers of Clar Karond and exiled to the Blackspine Mountains after a betrayal. So they are only found in the mountains west of Naggaroth. Each city should be it's own faction, the clans of Shades technically should be a faction too but I doubt it. Then most Black Ark fleets could also easily be their own factions seeing how they function very much as "private navies".

i did not know about the Clar Karond part- i knew about the Blackspine Mountains, but I didn't know they used to be the ruling-elite! thanks for setting the record straight ;) also definitely, yes, the Black Arks are pretty terrifying. It's hard to get a good picture without it just looking like I accidentally grabbed a picture of the top of a city. Their scope is so insane.

you cut off it's supply routes and attempt to starve them out, the Dark Elf cities are rather vulnerable to that kind of thing even if the Lords can fly in food most of the city can't, then they come out & kill you

Brettonia, England got mashed into France which makes sense since the English nobility all spoke french in the middle ages & Arthurian legend has heavy french influences, and kind of, almost the entire civilisation outside of the nobility is a serf class that spend their whole lives doing labour other than very occasionally providing grunt infantry and archers for the armies of knights, not much in the way of trade though unless you count consolidating lands and the peasants that come with them through marriage, since they don't work the peasants to death as fast as the dark elves do with their slaves they don't need to bring in the masses of replacements the Dark Elves can't function without.

honestly no- we're goign to get 4 armies with very different play-styles. from aggressive to defensive, to outright using slaves to take the fodder of the damage. campaign map wise, we're going to get a lot more flavor as well. less of the standard, "SACK EVERY CITY IN THE NAME OF x FACTION" and more of a centralized movement. also, the new intrigue system will probably similar to some other bigger games diplomacy system. so, plenty of goodies!
