If this is successful then perhaps Delhi suburban railway which is ring railway can be upgraded because it has really well coverage of interior parts of delhi. This thing can also finally upgrade the EMUs which connect ncr cities with each other and to Delhi. The EMUs local train share the regular railway lines hence suffer from poor frequency and massive crowds

Personally I think this is an unnessarily expensive idea. While it is a good idea to run such services, it can be run under the Railways itself. You could use the Bombardier AC locals as being used in Mumbai already. But it may be a good idea to have a separate authority which only looks into suburban rail systems under the Railway Ministry. Many major cities depend on EMU and MEMU suburban trains. These should be seen as part of the urban transport system rather than the overall railway system. This would be more efficient than this method.
@ShubhamSingh-ns9qs
@ShubhamSingh-ns9qs 5 жыл бұрын
nope wrong, here idea is to run a metro-like train at a speed of 100-130 kmph, which is impossible with local AC Train Set, that is why maha meto is buying a new train set.
@julupani
@julupani 5 жыл бұрын
@@ShubhamSingh-ns9qs FYI, the Bombardier EMUs used in Mumbai have been certified for 120kmph and actually operate at 110kmph speed limit. Even the latest ICF AC EMUs, with full vestibule, are certified upto 110Kmph. Similarly, the latest ICF MEMU are actually designed for 130kmph operation where allowed. In fact these EMUs/MEMUs are designed to run such longer suburban railways specifically compared to normal metro trains made in India like those by Bombardier/Alstom/BEML. Metro trains are not designed to run longer distances between stops, but focus on getting upto 50-60kmph faster since they wont operate much faster than that for very long. In fact metro design very often looks into how long a train set will take to leave one stop and arrive at the next stop which is just 1km away. So accelerating from 0-50kmph is far more important than 50-90kmph. This suburban rail service on the other hand will see stops which are 5 or even 10kms apart. Not to mention being operated on mainline means variations in signalling depending a huge load of long distance trains and freight trains, unlike the relatively controlled environment of metro systems. Thus you dont always have a nice smooth all green signal ride. This means very often accelerating from 30-90 or 50-100kmph. That is not the forte of urban metro systems. On the other hand ICF MEMUs are exactly designed for these sort of operations. While, of course Bombardier/Alstom can also make suitable trains for this, I am not sure it makes sense for them to do so just for Nagpur. Most of the demand for such trains comes from Indian Railways and not city metro systems. And IR is not likely to place order for such trains any time soon. Thus if those companies take up the order, they will probably import most of it which would make them costly.

90% of Nagpur People's have their own conveyance ( two wheeler ) they even don't even use City buses to commute then a Metro Project in such a City is a waste of Public Money as well as wastage of Money of Tax Payers...and average salary in Nagpur is between 6000 to 15,000/- The Green Bus Project was also a failure ...Crores was wasted.. I think Nagpur Metro can't even recover daily Operation cost from the passengers ...again wastage of Public Money
@sankarankumar424
@sankarankumar424 4 жыл бұрын
Per this logic Indian Railways should stop running passenger services - they run at a loss. The point is that having people use their own vehicles has hidden costs that include health costs due to pollution, the need to upgrade roads, traffic congestion that results in lack of productivity and consequent loss of revenue and so on. An efficient transportation service serves to expand the economic zone around the hubs and contributes to overall development of the region. Rather than heavily subsidizing the cost of the ticket, targeted subsidies can encourage more people to use the transportation systems. For example I have read that the bullet trains in South Korea have effectively expanded the Seoul region with businesses along the line benefiting from easy access to Seoul and people living at distances from Seoul where the lower cost of real estate more than balances the daily cost of commuting by the bullet train to their workplace. If properly planned a similar effect could be seen in the Nagpur region and in the Mumbai Ahmedabad corridor due to the upcoming Bullet Train. China is no fool in rapidly constructing a modern transportation infrastructure - these are by no means profit making. Road traffic in major Indian cities is not sustainable and better transportation infrastructure is a must even if it is not as heavily subsidized as the loss-making currently-run suburban trains.
