Nagpur Broad Gauge Metro (Marathi: नागपूर ब्रॉड गेज मेट्रो) is a commuter rail project planned for the city of Nagpur and extending up to adjacent districts of Wardha, Narkhed , Ramtek and Bhandara (also Nagbhid in the near future) in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, India. This project will be executed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared by Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC). According to the DPR, 4 routes of approximately 270 km were proposed at the cost of ₹418 crore. 3 coach trains will run on Indian Railways' broad gauge tracks at a maximum operating speed of 160 km/h. The passenger capacity of each train is 885. The final DPR was submitted in August 2019. The expected ridership of the Metro in 2021 on the various routes is: Wardha 5,669, Narkhed 2,616, Ramtek 3,929 and Bhandara Road 2,556. The total ridership is 14,700. The maximum design speed will be 200 kilometre per hour and the operating speed will be 160 km/hr. The Government of Maharashtra had cleared the proposal for broad gauge metro in March 2019.Railway board, Ministry of Railways under Government of India has approved the DPR in November 2019.

Nagpur - Bhandara
Interchanges will be put in place with phase 1 of Nagpur Metro at Khapri, Nagpur Railway Station and Ajni.

I'm from Nagpur and this project was one of the dream projects of union minister Shri Nitin Gadkari who is our MP from Nagpur. and this project will surely bring a large development in Nagpur. talking about this project this will be the continuation of Nagpur Urban Metro project which is going to finish in 2021. and after this NAGPUR BROAD GAUGE METRO PROJECT will start and I think It will take a time of at least 5 yrs means around 2025.

@@Akshay_p_kumar no... This project is for that purpose only..rather than using non ac local trains.. they will be using ac metro coaches and the ticket prices will also be somewhat similar to non ac ones.

Bro akola nagpur coridor can be also develope along with samruddhiche expressway and it can be extend up to aurangabad also, which will change the total map of area, but for these govr should himself start some big projects such as powerplant, or automobile clusture

In Vidarbha, Nagpur must be connected to Bhilai and Raipur of Chhatisgarh through such corridors. because Bhilai is heavily industrialized with Iron making companies.

Even though it is a Bhandara district, Bhandara City is totally dependent on nagpur city.. So This project is very important👌 for Bhandara citizens. But Distance between Bhandara road & city is 10km. So this problem should be solved for best.

This project is so cheap because most of the infrastructure used will be of Indian Railways. so operational issues might crop up.

@Michael its a good announcement but the problem here is a mismatch of agencies working Maha Metro is meant to build metros across the state, missing the biggest city of Mumbai, RRTS in Delhi is made by NCRTC, Maha Rail mahnun ek sanstha aahe te look kahich karat nahi aahe, Plus ministry of road transport is announcing rail which clearly shows lack of coordination with Railway ministry , IR railways and others, as mentioned earlier even though Gadkaris thought and intentions are good he is missing the point that IR tracks are congested and IR themselves don't have space and tech to run their own trains hence the Mumbai suburban or other weren't able to upgrade themselves, a simple track upgradation is taking 5-6 yrs, without IR i don't know how he plans to do somethings at least last time piyush goyal was with him, Plus mess is with railway board they created problems for E shreedharan when he was building Indias first metro. Piyush goyal launched Bengaluru suburban train programme nothing is done so far. Simple answer a very genuine Idea but should come from ministry of railways and not Minster of road and transport that where problem is.

Good project. Broad Guage metro hone ki baaja se iski lagat/cost kaam huea. I think, pura desh mein standard Guage ki Metro na bane, is mein costing jada hota hyan. Or Broad Guage mein costing kaafi kaam hota hyan. 🙏🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

Reason why standard gauge is preferable for metro is because that's the international standard so it is easy to source components and vendors. This also helps with export of standard gauge trains

The deadline isn't unrealistic. The trains will run on the old broad gauge tracks provided by Indian railways, everything is ready, from electrification to tracks. Only stations will be uplifted to have world class facilities and interchanges will be constructed at khapri metro station.

If this project is successful. Then this could be implemented for other suburban railway in India Delhi local train system is very well covered but is currently outdated and is falling in ridership. This could help with it

Very unFair, after started when it will compelet. Still metro first phase is not completed? Burdi kamptee is pending? Burdi pardi is incomplete? Now work almost stopped. And second phase impossible! Kamptee. Khannan,mihan to buttibori.
