Nageeb Mahfouz is one of my favorite authors of all time and it really brings me joy whenever I find someone talking about his work with such understanding.. I believe his best novel ever is Al Harafish .. i know you said you prefer a novel with a central protagonist so the novel can go deep in exploring the character, and Al Harafish has like a ten-generations worth of characters😅 but still when you read it you get the continuty of a single hero novel.. + the philosophy behind the novel and its transcendence beyond and through the generations becomes the main character I can't stress this enough it's a really good read I'd love to hear your thoughts on it

Thank you so much for watching and commenting, Salwa! 😃 Mahfouz is indeed a brilliant writer and storyteller, so I will continue to explore his work. Thank you for telling me about Al Harafish! I had not heard of it, but I've looked it up and it sounds excellent! I will add it to my mental list of books to be read. I would love to read the Cairo Trilogy too at some point. Have a fantastic day, my friend, and happy reading!

Hi Jorge! It seems odd, but all the Greek translations of Mahfouz's books are out of print nowadays! I have to look to my local public library to find any copies. I noticed also that "Midaq Alley" has been translated as "The alley of sin"- I think it captures the essence of the book, based on your presentation.

That is indeed very odd, my friend! Dozens of his books are available in English, and I understand the same goes for Spanish. I recently saw a copy of Midaq Alley in Spanish at a local bookstore, but I got the feeling it was translated from the English version. "The Alley of Sin" is definitely an appropriate title, yes. 😄 It's interesting how for the 1995 movie it became "The Alley of Miracles." Have a wonderful day, George! 😃
