It's a matter of seconds for a person with command on Samskrita language to catchup any Indian language's pronounciation as all are the apabhrimshas of moola Samskrita words. Vidya Bhushan mahodaya was an yati of a Maadhwa Peeta before he gave it up and entered grihasthaashrama. He continued to be a follower of Vidyavachaspati Padmashri Bannanje Govindaacharya, one of the greatest Samskrita scholars the world has ever seen from the late 20century and the early 21st century who recently passed away a year ago. So obviously Vidyabhushan's command (understanding) over the language is firm due to all these factors. He knows the expressions behind every word as he knows the etymological meanings of every word. That is the difference between Vidya Bhushan and the other so-called devotional singers.
