When Grimmjow said "I am the king", Ichigo remembered what his hollow told him. Hollows are born with a hole in their heart. So they constantly devour all their lives, trying and fill that empty void. But when Grimmjow saw Ichigo's resolve to protect those he loved at all cost, he momentarily had a glimpse of a "hollow being" who exemplified what it meant to have that void filled. Thus, it is in their nature to acknowledge him as the superior being, because he has reached a level that they have not and have always longed for.

What I like about this fight is that it is really about Ichigo’s mental state. He always had the power to beat Grimmjow, but wasn’t mentally ready both because he was wrestling with himself and trying to protect Orihime, but becoming insecure because she was clearly scared of him in this state. But more importantly Ichigo also had to admit to himself that he isn’t just there to save people, he wanted to beat Grimmjow’s ass after he beat his. He is fighting for himself as well, but doesn’t actually admit this until the end of the fight.

Grimmjows release state (Resurrection) is called Pantera which basically mean "esspecially large leopard" which is exactly what is animal form was. And I 100% agree that the ears were the primary reason why most people have an issue with his release state form.

You have no idea how HYPE this was when it came out, couldn't wait to see your reaction to this fight. I was always under the impression the theme of this match-up was the love of battle. You have two adversaries that love to fight, for different key goals, one wants to become King, one wants to protect, but BOTH want to become stronger for their goals and both of them know, they get the best out of eachother, the winner of the fight will be a step closer to their ultimate goal. This is my interpretation of the fight I think the most likely reason why Grimmjow gave that look before dying, is because he knew Ichigo was just like him, always trying to gain power to be the best, to be on top, to be the "King" (drawing connection between the King and the Horse analogy). But Grimmjows struggle for power wasn't out of trying to protect anyone, it was out of his own selfish want to be the king of the kingdom power for power sake maybe even respect. And when he realized Ichigo has that same hunger for power, it pissed him off because he sees himself in Ichigo but Ichigo actually has someything to fight for, he has his friends and family to protect, while Grimmjow was pretty much always alone. Again, this is simply what I took from their interactions, I could be wrong. But it seems that Grimmjow accepted his fate that he just simply wasn't as hungry for victory as Ichigo was. So he let him make the final blow instead of attempting to dodge or block it.

There's a reason why ichigo can hold his mask longer, it's just like chad said that he awakens his true left/right arm's power once he stepped in Hueco Mundo, that applies to ichigo in a way too. And about the part where the narrator explains the evolution of hollow, i'm sure u remember when Aizen being informed that grimmjow took five arrancars to the world of living and lost them all, aizen said that it's nothing but a bunch of Gillian or Adjuchas even though those arrancars were in human form which fits the features of Vasto Lordes. Grimmjow make that look cuz in the bottom of his heart he knew he had lost the battle when ichigo charges at him while cut through his Desgarron, and accpet his lost reluctantly. All he ever wanted maybe is just someone worth to be his rival (buddy).

This filler arc is totally skippable, just jump straight to 190. Aboout the fight my understanding is that both like, love to fight, but as ichigo said to grimmjow he can't lose because he fights for others not for pride alone, the look grimmjow gave at the end for me means that he kinda understood ichigo's strenght of fighting for something/someone else.

On the money here, that's pretty much my impression of the theme of the fight as well. And aside from that beach episode, for fan service reasons only (if that ep is even in this batch of fillers) this whole filler arc is skippable. Don't even watch it on your free time lol.

Grimmjow is a lot like if Ichigo's own inner hollow was on the outside, remember White said either one can be the king or the horse, and called ichigo weak for acting like he didn't want to fight. Well Grimmjow thought he should be king, and basically called Ichigo out on for acting like he didn't want to fight him. Ichigo basically wins both encounters by saying "Yeah, I do want to fight." and with grimmjow tacks on "but for reasons more important than just kicking your ass" Grimmjow might be my favorite espada, he's not like a super deep and incredibly philosophical character, but he has enough depth to have some bite and not feel forced.

People joke about the power of friendship and stuff, but it really helps in my experience, when I'm lifting and I have friends hyping me up I do a lot better. Grimmjow only ate a piece of each of his followers so that they couldn't evolve anymore, but it was most likely so they wouldn't devolve either and honestly it's not a bad idea if you believe you're no longer able to progress. (I don't think it's ever mentioned, but I think you can't devolve if you become an Arrancar, but I'm not 100% if thats accurate) Watch the fillers when you run out of other things to watch (Trust me you want to get to TYBW asap), some are good, others are ok, but I think it's worth to watch them at least once.

I was wondering if you can start your next reaction of bleach with ep 109. And skip to 15;51 and it ends at 18,50. The reason is that this part is a canon chapter but the studio used it in a filler ep. It's important because it plays a role in the tvbw and it adds more to ichigo character

The filler arc from episodes 168-189 is not the best imo. The only good things about it are: It gives some more insight on nobility in the Soul Society. One Lieutenant also becomes a main character for the arc. And three, genuinely fun, new characters are introduced. Other than that though, it's kinda bland and kills the pace of the Arrancar arc. If you really want to watch it I would do so after you finish the show.
