Mine also dries out similarly. I can see with a light down the barrel some plastic chaff on the door. I think they need to clean up the molding leftovers to get a better seal. The hard part is it’s very hard to get to. I was able to run a toothpick and get a couple flakes off but I may need to remove the nose cone with some heat. I likely won’t do that. Doodlebug saw a similar thing.

Absolutely! The flash from the molding is keeping the flap seal from closing completely. One of the other pen reviewer (don’t remember who) noticed that and cleaned it up and kept the pen from drying out. Also notified manufacturer, but looks like things haven’t changed yet. I’m waiting for now…

Oh, that's interesting. I'll have to see if I have a similar thing going on. Mine didn't really dry out much with the VP nib unit, though, so I don't know.

That's an interesting pen. Doodlebid had the same problem. He took it apart and saw that there was a burr on the flap that seals the nib. He cut the burr off and that kept is from drying out so much and leaking a little. Patrick from Narwhal called him and said they addressed the problem.

Thank you for your excellent video. After your review, however, I am more likely to buy a Curidas than the Eclipse. Hopefully, Nahvalur will act on your advice and make a few small adjustments to make the Eclipse a better pen.

I hope they do. This is the first gen of the product, and it's pretty good, but I think it could be really good in the future.

Do nahvalur nibs write on the dry side? I only have one and it's been an ordeal to get it to even work close to how I like it, and it might be my first nib that I get professionally tuned because of it, so I'm curious if this has been everyone's experience with them. It's also the stiffest nib I've ever tried too. But it's very pretty so I haven't tried to yeet it from my collection until I've had a thorough go at making it work. Lol

They are generally dry. I tend to do a few hard strokes to spread the tines a bit on mine and make them more wet (I probably should just shim the nib instead).

@gizmogeek23 I have shimmed mine and it flows better, but still not to my liking which is why I've thought about getting someone who knows what they're doing to go further. But it did help!

I normally enjoy pens from Nahvalur, but this one may very well be my most disappointing purchase in 2024. It looks interesting but doesn’t feel comfortable due to its sharp edges. The nib dries out within hours because of a mediocre, insufficient sealing mechanism and is nothing special when it writes. And the blind cap regularly twists of without unscrewing the pen. My feeling is that I paid 100 bucks for a prototype but not a finished product. And that’s a shame because as I said I really like my other Nahvalur pens.

My other Nahvalurs are great writers! But all of them are B or BB.

My Nautilus nibs haven't been dry, but I think all of the rest of them have been, yeah.

It seems all the capless pens (at least the ones I've tried) are similarly girthy, except the Pilot Fermo which comes in at 12 mm. I guess a twist mechanism doesn't take up as much room as a click mechanism, although I don't understand why, it has the same little front door it has to take care of. My real rant about capless pens is why the clip has to be at the front end. The Fermo is the least annoying in this respect, it doesn't seem to get in the way of my grip, but it also seems to be true that, with a twist mechanism, it would be safe to have the capless end inside your pocket. I guess this is just me, I haven't read other similar objections around, but this is the main reason I don't use the capless pens that I do have. I feel no incentive, therefore, to buy this Nahvalur, even aside from all the cons that you pointed out.

If you're looking for a slimmer retractable you'll want to check out the Pilot Decimo. It's got the same clip as the VP, but it's thinner, lighter, and it doesn't bother my wife's grip like the standard VP can. Might be worth a try if you get a chance to try one. The reason for having the nib at the top of the pen is to keep it from leaking, and not to keep it from accidentally clicking open, I think, so the Fermo shares the VP design.

Agree with all ....a pen that doesn't start... it's as useless as the $2 retractable chinese pens...atleast the chinese provide a tiny plastic cup to cover the nib end when not in use ...Total rip off .

The weird thing is that it only gives me hard starts at the beginning of the day. I think it's a fixable problem, but you're right that a pen that doesn't write isn't a good pen.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous, poorly executed designs I've seen. It's incomprehensible this made it out of R&D review, let alone to manufacture.

I think that's a little harsh. It's not perfect, but it's not junk either.
