I have been following your as well as Wes's videos that helped my hopeless homesick. My flight was just canceled with a full refund. Your films are very comforting. Thank you for spending the time document and showing us around. Your drone shots are purely AWESOME even though not in this episode! I'm planning to follow your steps throughout Taiwan when I can go back and visit. Enjoy the rain, enjoy the food, and your time in Taiwan. I am looking forward to watching your next videos! (PS: A puppet show in front of a temple is usually for returning the favor of being blessed by the God/Goddess in the temple, or celebrating a special event. When one's wish comes true, the person can provide the puppet show to show his/her appreciation. The candy given to you is believed with God's blessing. It is also considered extremely lucky to run into those events as well as receive the blessed treats. How lucky all of you are!)

I am glad you tried Taiwanese eel dish. When I went to Belgium, I also tried your eel dish. It was a clear broth stewed sea eel. It was delicious. I thought the flavors are similar to the taiwanese pickled vegetables pork noodle soup (榨菜肉絲湯).。

It has a lemon kind of flavor. In the Taiwanese soup, that flavor comes from the pickled vegetables.

Not sure if I've ever heard about that Belgian eel dish haha. The most famous one is 'Paling in het groen', which loosely translates to 'eel in green sauce'. images.app.goo.gl/Xgg6NUZi5TFWDMGN9
@wfireC4 жыл бұрын
@@NaickKim Yes, I heard about that one. The one I had was in a nice restaurant near my hotel. I think that was their chef's special creation. It was late spring and early summer. I guess he used some special herbs for it. I was so lucky that time. Btw,. I learned 3 days before going to Belgium that it was not an English speaking country. It was way before translators got popular. I bought a tour guide.book, and I used my pattern matching and analytical skills to identify the food on the menu. I was able to identify the word "eel" from a long string of French/Dutch words posted in front of the restaurant's special menu. I also successfully got hold of beer stewed rabbit, not to mention the famous Belgium fries and chocolate.

Southern Taiwan is getting hit hard with monsoon showers. May be taking time exploring some indoor activities and museums will be a good idea. Tainan has a couple cool art galleries and museums (as if there are not enough temples already). I would recommend Chimei Museum and National Museum of Taiwan History. Since you are already in Tainan, a side trip to adjacent Jiayi city's South Branch of the National Palace Museum will be a place any museum lover could not miss. Use the Google map to find the most convinemient way to get there. I would say making it a day trip is most ideal.

10:09 interesting fact about tea (unrelated to winter melon tea), the Taiwanese (and Min Chinese) pronunciation of tea is "te", where has the Mandarin and Cantonese pronunciations has the "ch" sound. That "t" pronunciation was exported by Dutch tea traders, so now it's in many European languages. Chinese makes for interesting linguistics study since it has influences on many other languages, especially in East Asia.
@sean93214 жыл бұрын
Funny when I was in Indonesia locals told me the exact same story except European got the name from their language. So I told them what you described and they gave me a funny face. Indonesian: Te, Minan/Taiwanese: Te, Cantonese: Cha, Mandarin: Cha. But Quanzhou was like the combination of Hong Kong and Shanghai before the Chinese empire formally shut it's foreign boarders I'm not surprised SE Asia got such influence. I guess European adopted the Portuguese version which got it from Malaka in Malaysia, the Singapore before Singapore.

Hi guys I love Tainan You can go chiku rural Orthodox Luermen Shengmu big temple and,salt mountain and Jing Zhai Jiao Tile Paved Salt Fields there the sunset after the rains very nice . Renting a motorcycle for a day is enough to play🥳🥳
In May and June is the main rainy season in Taiwan. Dutch people don't use the umbrella during the rainy day and you guys either.😂 Winter melon tea, the winter melon is a vegetable and we just cut it for the small piece then put in the pot with brown sugar and normal sugar to mix. After that, it would become winter melon brick, and just add a little piece of brick with water to melt when you want to drink it. The flavor of north Taiwan prefers to salty and south is sweety.

Taoism is a popular religion in Taiwan, and they have really lots and lots god representing different things. For example, the temple is dedicated for the god of "north", or the north star - Polaris . Also, since "North" represent "Water" according to Chinese philosophy, so the god in the temple also known as "God of Water" The interested thing is that this is a really old temple, and one of the wall plaque are given by "Chu shu-kuei" who is a imperial clan of Ming's Dynasty in 1669.

I'll be jiggered that you're leaving Tainan so soon. It's a pity that it rains a lot several days in a row during your visit but it should be the same in Kending area because it is in monsoon season. Tainan is marked the dawn of civilization in Taiwan and it takes time to appreciate. Many places are worth of your visit such as Siraya National Park, Green Tunnel, Guanziling, Chikan Tower and Chimei Museum. Siraya is the indigenous people in Tainan when the Dutch came here and used to be called Formosan. Chikan Tower wasn't a temple in fact. It was first built by Dutch and later on Kouxinga and his son used it as an administrative center to govern west part of Taiwan.
