That moo mobile b-roll....I could watch that 1000 times. Great points about the state of Taiwan tourism. It’s severely underrated. I think the language barrier might have something to do with it as well. English is not widely used. But it’s also fun to try to learn Chinese!

I totally agree Taiwan is an under rated travel destination. Like you guys, before I went there, I didn't really have much passion for visiting, as you just never really here about it. The girl who became my wife is Taiwanese + I first visited there to meet her family etc. (we met overseas) + I was blown away by the country (as you say - the entire package - the scenery, the people, the food). As for the one key reason to visit (the Taj Mahal as you say) - I think Taroko could serve that role. I wonder if Taiwan's obscurity is partly to do with the lack of international space and visibility afforded it due to Chinese pressure. In any case, the result of fewer tourists leads to a more authentic experience. You feel less like you are following a well worn tourist path + actually discovering a new country and people's way of life. What an amazing place for you guys to land during this Pandemic! Keep spreading the good word.

It is definitely underrated. I have been to Taiwan four times for the past 3 years. It should be 5 times as i chose to transit in Taipei when I went to New York last year. People are generally friendly and open-minded,, food is delicious, many scenic places, it is safe, love the hot springs, seamless connectivity.
That moment when the lady was so concentrated in explaining everything in Chinese even though you guys don’t understand a word was epic lolll How amazing you almost got it correct! One best thing about Taiwan people is they treat you equally no matter where you come from and what languages you speak with hospitality and warm hearts. I think you are right it’s people that makes Taiwan so precious but somehow it’s hard to explain to others. You have to come and feel it by yourselves 😊

Your videos are a delight to watch... I am in Kaohsiung, for me it has been a much longer stay then I had envisioned. I think you hit the nail on the head, Taiwan has never been high on my list, because it does not have that one feature that draws in the crowds. It does however have everything and is very pleasant to travel around in. I love I can sit at a coffee shop, leave for the bathroom (or even for 30 or more minutes to run an errand) and when I come back my phone and laptop are still there... I do not think I would try that in any other country. For those who like sports, Taiwan does have the KOM (a 90km bike ride up a 3.5km high mountain), great bike rides and great Triathlon races.

Taiwan is amazing and I love the country, spent 6 months there on a working holiday visa but it's not as well setup for international tourists compared to places like Thailand where you can always get an English menu and almost every shop has an English translation of its name. The Taiwanese government has done a very good job with dual languages on street signs and tourist attractions information plaques though. Before I went to Taiwan I had no idea that it really existed and the only reason I found out about it was because one of my favourite KZbinrs who lived in China moved there and said how good it was. Taiwan doesn't ever get a mention on our news in Australia and the whole time I was there I only met 2 other Aussies. But half of the young Taiwanese I spoke to had been to Australia and loved it.

If you’re in Sydney or Brisbane there is a large Taiwanese community and quite a few restaurants. Even now at Woolworths l can buy frozen green onion pancakes as well as Taiwanese sauces and drinks. Personally l’m glad Taiwan is not overrun with English signs as that’s the beauty of visiting a new country for me. They have enough for me to get by or there’s a local to help translate. If not, there’s always an app. I also like learning a bit of the local language.

Two places to avoid the excruciating summer heat in Taiwan: 1. Go to Taipei, where all the air conditionings are, or 2. Go to the mountains. The temperature drops 6 degree Celsius every 1000m.
