Though I suspect this is only the tip of the iceberg, it's fantastic! I'd love to see videos like this for Shigeru Nakamura's other kata as well.

That is the plan as soon as my favorite Uke and I can align our schedule.

Noone, I repeat noone (I have seen them all) has the ability to explain, demonstrate and teach Taika Seiyu Oyatas knowledge better than Lee Richards and if you don't perceive that you need new glasses!

You can watch it in 4k and zooming in should get you a pretty decent view.

What keeps the opponent from circling to your back with the arm levers from the opening Naihanchi movement? Thanks.

Speed and angle of his arm. Steve, the uke, would much prefer to take my back with his BJJ background but he couldn't, he would have to go to a thumb forward or up position in order to get the bend in the arm that would allow him to close the gap. He tried several times in class prior to this as well as other BJJ cross-overs that attend. We also pressure test with police BJJ classmates and peers. There would also be more Atemi if this was not just an intro instructional video. Also the technique would not end there, it would go to a prone pin immediately.
