Thanks! I never learned to use my mixed voice. Well, almost never. Half a year ago I sang along with a song by Myles Kennedy (Watch over you). I just saw a video of him explaining his use of vocal techniques. There are a couple of tricks in there and I just tried it. To my own surprise I felt like I was singing like the best of 'em. It was amazing! I felt it. I was so proud. I could never do it and now, in just one try, I could. Brilliant!!! Unfortunately the next day I couldn't repeat it. It's frustrating. Your explanation gave me hope again though, because what you just taught me reminded me a lot of what I did, that one time that I could do it. So maybe I can learn it again and keep doing it. I'd go crazy of pure joy. 😁

@@davegsux I like how this guy explains things and I like his content but I also would like female examples. Not everyone learns the same way so if this guy explains in a way some can understand better it will help his audience to add variety and help him gain followers by extension.

Hmnn I feel like this video covered more on how to sing with your mixed voice than how to actually belt, what about when you belt notes that aren't in your "mixed range" for example, how do you actually project you voice outwards, both loudly and steadily? For me what makes the belt so powerful when some singers do it, is how streamlined and clear, yet strong the note sounds, which not easy to do.
@calvinpham55472 ай бұрын
I’ve found my head voice by sheer chances. One time i pulled the corners of my mouth back when i hit higher note suddenly it felt much easier. From there i realized my head voice was what i ve discovered and and i kept working on it. Next thing i know i need to go up on most song 2 step higher. The notes also come out much more articulate. When I’ve moved to Houston I’ve stopped practicing for 9 months and I’ve lost the head voice connection. It took me 2-3 weeks of practicing to get it back. Mixed voice is useful to get pass a difficult singing passages and create your own style IMO. Something that has to do with your emotions too. Thanks for the video
@ld7561 Жыл бұрын
This was confusing to me, because your example of a head voice, was a closed falsetto to me, and I didn't hear what I define as a head voice (think how the British speak, or a more open 'mask' voice). One master of mixed voice I aspire to be like, is Alfredo Kraus. I'm not a tenor, but love how he would combine voices basically as low and as high as he could. He stands out to me as a great classical singer, far more than Pavarotti!
@mykittenisaferociousnugget3 ай бұрын
This was so useful! It turns out I've been accidentally belting sometimes for awhile now. I thought it was just a powerful head voice. But this still helps a lot! I've been trying to master belting so I can do it with control.

It's interesting to me that the examples of chest voice are rock n' roll vs the pop songs and sound of using a mix. It's something I notice over and over with many exercises and techniques - they tend to be geared towards the pop sound and it's quite noticeable. I wonder if there are good examples of using the burrito method with a rock n' roll sound? Or is that chest voice sound what makes it rock n' roll?

From my own personal experience Ive noticed that some people can do this and many cant. Granted, I havent been singing professionally for very long ( I started playing professionally in bands in Sept of 1973, and went solo as a pub entertainer in 1980 and retired from full time road work in nov of 2019) I survived all those years with chest voice. Thats the only useable register that I have. Personally this mixed voice and head voice are something Ive never been able to do. Ive never seen a Unicorn either. From my experience , those that say you can get this with practice, are promoting a deliberate fiction. Your mileage may vary.

This explanation equates falsetto with head voice and they're not the same thing. The vocal cords in head voice are thin whereas in falsetto they are stiff. Falsetto is breathy, head voice is clean. It's not accurate to use these terms interchangably.

I don't think "belting" is what you define it as. If you are talking about resonance, just say that. Ok head and chest voice we can understand. But "belting"? Yea can't say that's a thing. Some vocal teachers have a way of overcomplicating things. I don't think singing a high note in your chest voice intentionally wrong to give a bad example is an honest teaching technique. Some singers could easily nail these in either chest or head. I WILL say it's a good thing to focus on though. I always called those notes that can be either voice, "the bridge voice". Ive never given lessons except to my friends and a few guitar students, but if you start your "burrito" you would have had to practice your falsetto for a few weeks/months unless you already had developed your falsetto. Without the strong falsetto there can be no burrito as I see things. And it would be a better use of time to 1st deveop the strong falsetto and then the bridge voice will automatically come naturally especially if you are also strengthening the diaphram as well.
