Ahh I am sooo happy I found you!!! This is exactly what I wanted and wow 7 days is huge as my polish only lasts two days but looks like crap by then too. I’ve been searching for ways to do my nails that aren’t damaging or require UV light

I stopped gel polish during Covid. Tried press-ons, stick on polish, and regular polish. I really like gel polish the best so I decided to learn to do my own. I watched alot of KZbin videos and got the basics. I've been getting a solid 3 weeks of wear. I give my nails a break overnight after removal and religiously use nail oil every day. I'm impressed with no chipping for 7 plus days using regular polish. You are correct that nail prep makes a huge difference. The gel polish takes longer when you do your own nails, but I'm retired now, so I have the time, and saving the cost of a salon doesn't hurt either.

I stopped doing UV lamp manicures too. It didn't agree with my nails, pricey and just time consuming. I learned how to take good care of my nails by watching a nail technicians here on YT, Anna @TheSalonLife :) Highly recommend! My nail routine is: 1. Remove polish with nail polish remover 2. Push cuticles back with a pusher 3. Cuticle remover (I use Blue Cross) 4. Wash it off and use cuticle tool to remove cuticles, nip cuticles if needed 5. Do nail shape and buff (I buff with 240 grit after putting some talc on my nails), I buff skin around nails too5. 6. Nail prep - nail cleaner , allows following products to stick better 7. Nail polish or conditioner (I use essie smooth-e base and essie regular polish or the gel couture one or Manucurist active glow range of conditoners (there are bad boys, so long lasting!) 8. cuticle oil! It is so important! At night I also slugg regular vaseline over nails and cuticles, massage gently too. 9/ scrub and cream when feeling fancy :)

@@JennaHong Thank you! After removing gel manicure my nails were cracking in the middle like length-wise and took forever to restore them :) I learned how to be gentle with them and consistent and now totally loving doing my own nails (it gets better over time too!)

I fell out of habit with doing my nails because...life. also, my nails would chip after a few days and i was tired of looking sloppy all the time with chipped polish lol. I wanna get back to wearing polish, so I'm about to take notes!!

Your nails are beautiful and healthy, and seem to handle the buffing well, but I know most cannot handle that amount of loss to the layers of their nails. Something I'd recommend to those with more delicate nails is a ridge filler. If you want a super even surface without buffing, just apply a coat of ridge filler before polish and you'll be good to go!
@JennaHong4 ай бұрын
I don’t buff a ton to be fair but I appreciate your tip on the ridge filler, that’s such a good idea thank you
