Another couple of tips to make your mani last longer : Always seal the free edge of the nail when applying each coat of base, colour and top coat. This way there are no chips. I understand this will be easier to do for those who have longer nails. Another one would be to make sure there's a gap between the lower edge of the polish and cuticle, and making sure the top coat is closer to the cuticle than the polish is. This will prevent shrinkage, which is common with quick-dry top coats :)
@matildaonvideo4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! Yes I just learnt about capping too so I do that occasionally as well 👍 x

@@mobslanderisnevertolerated633 I can feel your struggle. The hardest part for me is to let it dry without smudging. One thing I have learned is never to paint my nails at night. So hearing what you like specifically about the chanel and Burberry polishes would be great.

I don't know if it's just the ones i've bought but they were honestly not even good. I like Dior and Yves Saint Laurent a lot though, they're gorgeous. In drugstore, I'd say Essie is wonderful to me, for O.P.I (IDK if its drugstore???) I'm mixed, some colors look WONDERFUL and other are similar to the Chanel ones so... pretty bad. The brand Sephora isn't drugstore but it's super cheap and quite nice!

Thank you Erica! 💅 Water is definitely the worst enemy of nail polish - when I have a long bath, my polish can sometimes peel off when I try to pull the plug out. I've noticed some nail polish removers have oils in them, so if you do decide to paint it onto your nail before you use polish double check! If it has oil in the remover, it can have the opposite effect intended. Personally I prefer using rubbing alcohol for prepping my nails, but the smell can bother some people so it's really down to personal preference. Honestly, you don't need to use either of these options though your nails will look good if either way!

@matildaonvideo4 жыл бұрын
This might relate to the polishes themselves! Make sure you're not shaking them before use, only rolling them between your hands like I demonstrate in the video. I store all of my polishes in a box in a cool, dark place and that seems to help the formulas stay smooth 💅 I'm sure you'll find some suggestions online to avoid air bubbles! x

I have had this happen between some formulas and all I can figure is yeah dry time i messed up or the actual formulas have a chemical interaction issue... i only use one topcoat now with zero issues ever. This last one, for example, has been there for 70 years! They are pretty inexpensive as well, comparing to European and American brands (around 0,60 Euros). I’m sure you’d love to know them! 😍💅🏻🇧🇷

I don't really have much of a hair routine to share unfortunately! Pretty low maintenance. But I'll be sharing some products I enjoy in my 2019 Favourites video soon 👍 x

The classic colours that you use have inspired me to stick to the nail colours that are classy instead of trendy. I have a myriad of nail polish colours (25-30. What can I say, I love wearing nail polish), but I have decided that I am not going to add any more colours to that range. I will definitely use them up, as nail polish doesn't really expire. But any new shades I buy will be the 'classic' ones - nudes and reds, that work well against my skin tone. A lot of times the trendy shades are good to look at but they don't enhance the beauty of your hands. I love how you always wear shades that not only look gorgeous but also look great on your hands. My plan was to actually invest in a few staple gel nail polishes in the future. But you said that you don't wear any. So I'll probably have to research on whether or not they are good for your nails. Thanks for this inspiring video tho 💜

Someone told me that a trick to get your nails to dry fast is to dip them in water? I see no effect but 🤷♀️
@matildaonvideo4 жыл бұрын
Ooh I'm not sure about that... cold water might help the top layer *seem* to harden but be careful, I'd say your nails are still at high risk of smudging until about half an hour later 💅 x

How can one prevent nail polish from drying in the bottle? Especially when one is painting the nails, leaving the bottle open....

An unsolicited tip: I put Dr. Paw Paw balm (Vaseline should do) around each nail, making sure to cover the cuticle area as well. When I get polish around/outside the nail, it’s much easier to wipe off because of the balm. Just be careful not to get balm on the nail itself though since the nail will need to be dry for the polish to adhere properly.

Ooh that's a great idea! Thank you for sharing 👍💅 x

You shouldn’t file your nails back and forth. One direction filing is the best for your nails!
@matildaonvideo4 жыл бұрын
I mentioned this in the video Anna! But back and forth is just what gives me the most control of the shape 👍 x

congratulations for the way you see the manicure as a self-care moment. Here in Brazil, the women prefer to pay for everything: hair, mani, etc. I think like you. It's a self-care and I like to enjoy.

What’s the procedure for re-applying topcoat 2-3 days after your manicure to keep away chips? Do you wash your hands and let them dry? To remove any oils I’m assuming And then paint the top coat directly on and wait 20 min? Or just 5-10? Also, how long on average have you noticed it prolongs your manicure for when doing this step?
@matildaonvideo4 жыл бұрын
Currently on day 7 of the exact mani from this video with no chips Monika! I don't have a procedure for the top coat because all of the prep work was done during the initial mani, so I'll just wipe down my nails (so there's no dust or residue on them), paint with top coat, and let it dry for 20 mins. Still needs the same drying time as usual 👍💅 x

I don’t even do my nails but when you post I clicked right away and watched the entire video 😂 Also just bought the Chanel bubble skin tint and omg already favorite “face base” product already!! I always “hate” foundations (except for Chantecille’s future skin) but this is so barely there yet evens out skin tone perfectly! Thanks for talking me into it - would never have tried this if not for your raving reviews! Cheers and happy holidays!

I also enjoy doing my nails myself. When I discovered brand Dazzle Dry it totally changed my nail game. Since I had a kid I don’t have nearly as much time as I used to have for my nails. So it should be fast drying and long lasting and I do not want do gel or anything which can destroy my nails because naturally my nails are pretty good. So Dazzle dry is one of the best and I surprised not so many people on KZbin talk about them
@matildaonvideo4 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoy the process too! 💅 I haven't come across that brand before x

Gel doesn't destroy your nails if done properly. I've been using gel polish myself at home for about 3 years now, and my nails have never been in such a good condition before! It takes some time to paint my nails this way, but the polish stays on without chipping for 3 weeks, which is great.

Hi Matilda! I've recently gotten some rms beauty products and have enjoyed them all thus far. I enjoy Living Luminizer a lot because of how sheer and natural and PRETTY it makes my skin look! Thank you for your in-depth reviews on this channel because you've inspired me to be more experimental in using products; I mix a little of Magic Luminizer (which I found had a completely different texture from living luminizer, more wet and less firm perhaps?) with some moisturizer to use a bit everywhere for an all around healthy glow. I've noticed you saying that you are a makeup minimalist with a not so minimal collection lol, and was wondering whether you'd be willing to film a quick information video on how you store products, organize makeup, or decide when to throw a product out? Speaking as I'm branching out to discover my own style of makeup and what things I look for in products, my collection has grown quite a bit over this last year and I'm interested in the ways you personally handle everything and how I can better manage my own products 💗💕
@matildaonvideo4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mel, glad you're enjoying your RMS! ✨ I get asked about storage a lot but unfortunately I don't feel comfortable filming my collection - I just prefer to make more concise videos based on a concept or theme. I don't have any fancy storage or tips either haha, my products are just inside bathroom drawers, or in empty candles or glass jars. I personally don't follow expiry dates at all - I prefer to prioritise cleanliness instead (only applying makeup with clean hands, never sharing with other people, putting lids straight back on, cleaning up packaging after use etc). If it still looks / smells / performs the same, I keep it! But that’s always a personal call x

I love doing my own nails, I always get compliments. And I feel the same, why would I pay someone to do something I can do better and free? Also, a good tip is to do your thumbs last because you can use them to clean up around your nails while they’re still wet. A tip I leaned from Betina Goldstein, the best celebrity manicurist ever. Her designs are to die for! 😍

I'm having complications with the discount code my cart is over $15 and it says the coupon code isn't valid.
@matildaonvideo4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that Sam! The code is only valid with a minimum spend of $15 (so if your total goes below $15 when the top coat changes to free, it won't work). Make sure it is also in your cart before you enter the code! If that doesn't fix it, please use the contact form on this page of the Olive & June website and someone should be able to help you 💅 oliveandjune.com/pages/contact-us x

I love how aesthetically pleasing your mani is. I also got the Olive And June Top Coat because of you and I love it! It keeps my polish on for so long. I need it for at least 3 days since I get bored easily. And this is the first top coat that has ACTUALLY no chips. It’s so thin, too! I personally like it not too thick. For some reason mine is a sort of cheap chrome rather then a neutral white and olive green color. That’s why I HATE my mom’s which is the Sally Hansen gel like top coat. So thank you!

So glad you're enjoying their terrific top coat! 😄💅 x
