My question would be, what counts as AO1 and AO3 for issues and debates? E.g. in an 8 or 16 marker?

Thank you, i understand all of this but i dont know how to structure the paragraphs, so what counts as ao1 and how you would evaluate it?

Ik you’ve prob done ur a levels now but I’ll reply for anyone else who’s wondering. Ao1 is description, and worth 6 marks( as of now and for AQA). A good thing to do is just get ur description out the way in ur first paragraph. Cover definitions and any key facts relating to a topic and make sure to explain very well, as this is where the marks are. Next is AO3- evaluation. Try to do 3 to four paragraphs describing the strengths and weaknesses of the topic, a strength/weakness per paragraph. Do PEEL chains - describe ur point, explain, state some evidence (research) and explain this, and finally link back to point, ie explaining how this relates to the topic clearly. To really understand this format , id recommend looking up some clear example 16 mark answers. No need for a conclusion, won’t really get u any marks.

@@amzz1018 I believe Samia is referring to structuring essays for Issues & debates as they are slightly different from the standard structure as you are describing.

This is INCREDIBLY HELPFUL WOW!!! AMAZING!! Thank you so so much this has helped me incredibly! One question I do just have is... for my evaluation points do I bring in these examples you have stated like (OCD, LEARNING theories etc.) or do I just use that for the AO1 where i am describing the debate? :)

usually i have the examples in my ao1 then for my evaluations i'll talk about whether the issue or debate is scientific, evidence for and against like studies, or it's application so you could try that :)
